As the IPL 2026 kicks off at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, all eyes will be on the blockbuster opening clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad. With a fresh season comes renewed hopes, new team combinations, making team selection for the very first game all the more crucial.

RCB, known for their star-studded lineup and explosive batting, will be keen to field their most balanced XI right from the start. The challenge, however, lies in finding the perfect mix of firepower, stability, and bowling depth against a competitive SRH unit.

Here is Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s strongest predicted XI for the tournament opener:

Top order: Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, Venkatesh Iyer

RCB’s top-order promises fireworks. Phil Salt will most likely continue with Virat Kohli at the top. Both Kohli and Salt complement each other’s game perfectly well, and their running between the wicket is fine too. The English batter can take on any bowler on any given day. On the other hand, Kohli, IPL’s most successful batter ever, gives this side a much needed stability.

Venkatesh Iyer will come in at number 3, and will provide a left-hand option to the defending champions. Iyer’s attacking batting is well suited for a flat Chinnaswamy wicket.

Middle order: Rajat Patidar (c), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Krunal Pandya

Rajat Patidar, who led RCB to their first-ever IPL trophy last year, will be the glue to this batting unit. His excellent game against spin bowling will come handy in this phase. Accompanying him in the middle order will be wicketkeeper batter Jitesh Sharma. He, too, can play attacking shots from ball one.

RCB have been excellent with using Krunal’s services with the bat. The left-hand all-rounder can be a handy asset with the bat if used well, and that is what RCB has been doing. He will come to bat according to the match situation.

Lower order: Tim David, Romario Shepherd

This will be defending champions’ biggest strength as they have two of the hardest hitters of the ball going around in world cricket. Tim David will give them a much needed finishing touch when required whereas Shepherd also provides a bowling option.

Bowling: Suyash Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jacob Duffy

Experienced Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar will headline the bowling attack in the absence of Josh Hazlewood. Suyash Sharma has wicket-taking ability with the ball, whereas Jacob Duffy will bring in his international experience.
