In a run-fest at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) produced a magnificent chase to defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets with seven balls to spare. After SRH posted a daunting 219/6, PBKS rode on explosive half-centuries from openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, followed by a captain’s knock from Shreyas Iyer, to seal their third win of IPL 2026.
SRH innings: Abhishek Sharma’s blitz
Opting to bowl first, PBKS were put to the sword immediately. SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head added a staggering 120 runs in just 49 balls for the first wicket. Abhishek was the aggressor, smashing 74 off 28 deliveries (5 fours, 8 sixes) at a strike rate of 264.29, while Head contributed a brisk 38 off 23.
After the openers fell in quick succession to part-time bowler Shashank Singh, skipper Ishan Kishan (27 off 17) and Heinrich Klaasen (39 off 33) added 47 runs. Late cameo from Aniket Verma (18 off 9) pushed SRH to 219/6. Arshdeep Singh (2/50) and Shashank Singh (2/20) were the pick of the bowlers, while Marco Jansen (0/40) and Yuzvendra Chahal (0/33) went wicketless.
PBKS chase: Shreyas Iyer’s calm finish
Chasing 220, PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh came out with all guns blazing. The duo put on 99 runs in just 38 balls for the first wicket. Arya smashed 57 off 20 balls (5 fours, 5 sixes) at a stunning strike rate of 285, while Prabhsimran scored 51 off 25 (4 fours, 5 sixes). Their assault helped PBKS race to 93/0 in the powerplay overs.
After both openers fell to Shivang Kumar (3/33), Cooper Connolly (11) departed cheaply. But Shreyas Iyer took charge, anchoring the chase with an unbeaten 69 off 33 balls (6 fours, 5 sixes). He found able support from Nehal Wadhera (14 off 14) and Shashank (16 not out off 9). Iyer brought up his fifty in just 25 balls and finished the game in style, hitting the winning runs in the 19th over.
Iyer was also adjudged Player of the match for his brilliant batting.
