
The latest ICC Men’s ODI rankings have brought several notable changes across the batting, bowling and all-rounder standings following the ongoing ODI series involving India, England, New Zealand, West Indies, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. India’s victory over England in the opening ODI at Edgbaston has resulted in significant gains for several players, with captain Shubman Gill inching closer to the summit of the batting rankings.
Axar Patel, meanwhile, enjoyed a memorable all-round rise after starring with both bat and ball, while players from New Zealand, West Indies and Zimbabwe were also rewarded for their recent performances.
Shubman Gill closes the gap on Daryl Mitchell in ODI batting rankings
India skipper Gill has emerged as one of the biggest gainers in the latest rankings update after his match-winning 80 against England. The right-handed batter has gained 12 rating points and now trails world No. 1 Daryl Mitchell by just 11 rating points, setting up an exciting battle for the top spot in the coming weeks.
Gill played a pivotal role in India’s successful chase before retiring hurt on 80 off 75 deliveries. While Mitchell continues to occupy the No. 1 position after scoring 93 runs in the first two ODIs against the West Indies, the New Zealand batter now has Gill breathing down his neck.
Elsewhere in the batting rankings, England veteran Joe Root has climbed to joint 12th after his fluent 76 in the opening ODI, while West Indies captain Shai Hope has moved up to sixth following his unbeaten 87 against New Zealand. Keacy Carty has also broken into the top 20 after an impressive start to the series, and Zimbabwe opener Ben Curran has jumped 31 places to 34th after an excellent series against Bangladesh.
Axar Patel enters top 10 as bowlers and all-rounders make gains
India all-rounder Axar has been rewarded across all three ranking categories following his Player of the Match performance against England. After claiming four wickets and scoring an unbeaten half-century, Axar has climbed 18 places to 73rd in the batting rankings, moved up to 42nd among ODI bowlers, and broken into the top 10 of the ICC Men’s ODI all-rounder rankings at ninth.
Washington Sundar has also made impressive gains after his unbeaten fifty, rising 24 places to 177th in the batting rankings and climbing 16 spots to 55th among all-rounders. Jasprit Bumrah, meanwhile, has returned to the ODI bowling rankings in style, moving up to 24th after marking his comeback with a wicket against England.
New Zealand seamer Jayden Lennox has enjoyed a career-best rise after his outstanding 5/19 against the West Indies, climbing 31 places to joint 66th in the bowling rankings. West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has also moved up six places to 36th following a five-wicket haul across the first two ODIs.
Zimbabwe all-rounder Brad Evans was another notable mover after being named Player of the Series against Bangladesh. He climbed 148 places in the batting rankings, improved four spots among bowlers, and surged 82 places in the ODI all-rounder standings following an outstanding all-round performance.
England stars make gains in latest ICC T20I rankings
The latest weekly rankings update also brought significant movement in the ICC Men’s T20I rankings following England’s dominant 4-0 series victory over India. England captain Harry Brook has climbed 12 places to seventh in the batting rankings after scoring 229 runs during the series, while Jos Buttler has moved up to sixth after producing a career-best 131 in the final T20I.
England pace spearhead Jofra Archer has also been rewarded for his impressive series with the ball, climbing eight places to joint 18th in the T20I bowling rankings after claiming seven wickets in four matches.
