Lockie Ferguson produced one of the standout moments of Sunrisers Leeds’ dominant victory over Welsh Fire in The Hundred Men’s 2026. The New Zealand pacer showed outstanding reflexes to complete a sensational diving catch and dismiss Ryan Rickelton during the first innings.

The wicket came on the 51st ball of Sunrisers Leeds’ innings, with Rickelton looking to maintain the momentum after an explosive start alongside Mitchell Marsh. Ferguson, who had just completed the previous set of five deliveries, reacted brilliantly to a thick outside edge and pulled off a stunning catch at short third.

The dismissal came when Chris Woakes bowled a fuller delivery outside off stump. Rickelton attempted to clear the field with a powerful swing but only managed to get an outside edge. The ball flew towards short third and appeared to be dying quickly. Ferguson, who had just finished bowling the previous set, reacted instantly and threw himself full-length to his right. He managed to get both hands to the ball and plucked it out of the air in an outstanding piece of athleticism.

Rickelton departed after scoring a rapid 40 off 22 balls, with his innings containing three fours and three sixes. His dismissal ended an explosive opening partnership that had put Sunrisers Leeds firmly in control of the contest.

Sunrisers Leeds crush Welsh Fire by 71 runs

Sunrisers Leeds made the most of batting first at Headingley, posting an imposing 201 for 4. Marsh provided the foundation at the top of the order, scoring 50 off 34 deliveries, while Rickelton’s 40 off 22 balls ensured the hosts maintained a blistering scoring rate during the early stages. The opening pair added 89 runs from the first 51 balls, giving Sunrisers a strong platform. After Rickelton’s dismissal, Harry Brook continued the assault with a quick 23 off 11 balls before falling to Jordan Clark.

Marsh was eventually dismissed by Ferguson, but Zak Crawley and Dan Lawrence ensured the momentum did not disappear. Crawley smashed four sixes during his 34 off just 12 balls, while Lawrence contributed 29 from 15 deliveries as Sunrisers Leeds crossed the 200-run mark for the second time at home this season.

Welsh Fire’s chase never gained the required momentum. Phil Salt and Matthew Short struggled to find their rhythm before Brydon Carse removed both batters, leaving the visitors at 73 for 2 after 58 balls. Carse finished with impressive figures of 3 for 24, while Nathan Ellis provided the finishing blow by dismissing Joe Root and Rachin Ravindra in the space of three deliveries. Welsh Fire eventually limped to 130 for 6, suffering a heavy 71-run defeat.
