Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh set to join Delhi Capitals for IPL 2027

Delhi Capitals (DC) are reportedly preparing for a major change in their coaching structure ahead of the Indian Premier League 2027 season. The franchise is expected to bring together a high-profile group featuring former India captain Sourav Ganguly, legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and experienced Sri Lankan pacer Chaminda Vaas, although Delhi Capitals have not officially confirmed any of the reported appointments.

Sourav Ganguly set to return as Head Coach

Ganguly is expected to take over as Delhi Capitals’ head coach, adding another significant responsibility to his association with the franchise. He became JSW Sports’ director of cricket in 2024 and has remained closely involved with the Delhi setup, including its Women’s Premier League (WPL) team.

The former India captain previously served as Delhi’s mentor during the 2019 IPL season before moving on to become BCCI president. He also gained coaching experience with Pretoria Capitals in SA20 2025, when he took charge as head coach for the first time.

His expected elevation comes as Delhi Capitals enter a new operational phase. An agreement between co-owners GMR Sports India Pvt Ltd and Jindal South West (JSW) Sports following IPL 2024 means the two groups will oversee franchise operations in alternating two-year cycles.

As part of the reported overhaul, the existing coaching group consisting of team director Venugopal Rao, head coach Hemang Badani, bowling coach Munaf Patel and assistant coach Ian Bell is not expected to continue.

Yuvraj Singh in line for first formal coaching role

Yuvraj is also reportedly set to join the franchise, with reports suggesting that he could take up the batting coach position. Some reports have alternatively indicated that he may serve as assistant coach.

Either way, the appointment would mark Yuvraj’s first formal coaching role in the IPL. Despite not previously holding an official coaching position, he has regularly worked with young Indian batters and has received praise from players such as Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh for his influence on their development.

Yuvraj’s connection with Delhi also extends to Rishabh Pant. Before IPL 2026, Pant held training sessions with Yuvraj in Mumbai. Pant is set to return to Delhi Capitals from Lucknow Super Giants through a trade, and reports suggest Ganguly and Yuvraj were involved in discussions surrounding the move.

Chaminda Vaas and Amit Mishra add IPL experience

Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Vaas is reportedly being lined up as the bowling coach. Vaas claimed 355 Test wickets and 400 ODI wickets during his playing career and represented Deccan Chargers during the first three IPL seasons from 2008 to 2010.

His coaching background includes several stints with Sri Lanka, as well as work with New Zealand and Ireland. He has also worked as a fast-bowling consultant and academy mentor for Sri Lanka Cricket. At franchise level, Vaas coached NYS Lagos in the 2024 Zim Afro T10 League and served as head coach of Kandy Royals in LPL 2026.

Former India leg-spinner Amit Mishra is also expected to join Delhi’s support staff. Mishra played for Delhi Daredevils, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants during his IPL career. He retired in September 2025 after last playing in the competition in 2024.

Mishra finished his IPL career with 174 wickets in 162 matches at an economy rate of 7.37. He remains the tournament’s leading hat-trick-taker, with three hat-tricks to his name.
