Zimbabwe and Australia are meeting in the opening ODI at Harare Sports Club, with the visitors choosing to bat first after winning the toss. However, Australia found themselves under pressure early as Zimbabwe’s bowlers made effective use of the conditions and struck regularly. Four Australian wickets fell inside the first 18 overs, leaving the score just above 100 and giving Zimbabwe an early advantage. Amid the impressive bowling display, veteran wicketkeeper Brendan Taylor produced a memorable piece of fielding to remove Josh Inglis.

The key moment came when Newman Nyamhuri bowled to Inglis. The Zimbabwe seamer delivered a fuller ball from round the wicket, angling it into the Australian batter. Inglis attempted to play the delivery on the up, looking to find a boundary through the field. Instead, he managed only a faint edge. The ball travelled towards Taylor behind the stumps, but the wicketkeeper had very little time to react.
Taylor instinctively threw out his right hand and completed an excellent one-handed catch. The veteran keeper held on cleanly, ending Inglis’ stay at the crease and adding another wicket to Zimbabwe’s strong start with the ball. The dismissal also highlighted Taylor’s sharp reflexes behind the wickets. With the ball coming off the outside edge at pace, there was little room for error, but the Zimbabwe veteran made sure the opportunity did not go to waste.

Taylor reaches unique ODI career milestone
The catch added another memorable moment to what was already a significant day for Taylor. His appearance in the first ODI against Australia saw him achieve a notable milestone in terms of ODI career longevity. Taylor, who made his ODI debut in 2004, has now completed an ODI career spanning 22 years and 146 days. That takes him past India legend Sachin Tendulkar, whose ODI career lasted 22 years and 91 days.
The milestone gives Taylor another distinction in a career that has stretched across more than two decades. His contribution in Harare was not limited to that achievement, however, as his one-handed effort to dismiss Inglis provided one of the early highlights of the contest.
