Netherlands have made a change to their men’s coaching setup as they prepare for an important period in their international calendar. The team has brought in an experienced coach with a strong background in international and franchise cricket, with the new appointment set to begin with an initial two-year contract running until the end of 2028.

The new head coach takes over from Ryan Cook, who will step down from the role to spend more time with his family. His immediate focus will be on helping the Netherlands continue their progress and secure qualification for the next ODI and T20 World Cups.

Netherlands appoint former Australia international as head coach

Netherlands have appointed former Australia international Ashley Noffke as their new men’s head coach. The 49-year-old brings extensive playing and coaching experience to the role after working across several countries and different levels of the game. As a player, Noffke represented Australia and enjoyed a lengthy first-class career with Queensland, Western Australia and four English counties.

He also featured for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the inaugural IPL match in 2008. Noffke finished his first-class career with 3,766 runs and 386 wickets. He was also only the third Australian to complete a season double of 500 runs and 50 wickets, an achievement that earned him State Player of the Year honours.

Extensive coaching experience across international and franchise cricket

Noffke has built an extensive coaching career since moving away from playing. He won a WBBL title and two successive Coach of the Year awards with Brisbane Heat, while also guiding Queensland Fire to a WNCL championship. His coaching journey has taken him across Australia, England, New Zealand and Asia.

He also led London Spirit to their maiden Hundred title before taking charge of Otago’s men’s programme in New Zealand. In 2025, Noffke joined the Pakistan men’s team as assistant coach and bowling lead. He will now take on his first head coaching role with an international men’s side as he begins his tenure with the Netherlands.

New head coach outlines his approach with Netherlands

Noffke said building strong connections within the group will be central to his approach. He also highlighted the talent and motivation within the Netherlands squad as he outlined his ambition to continue developing the programme. KNCB CEO Huib van Walsem also backed the appointment while praising Cook’s contribution during his time in charge. The organisation highlighted Noffke’s global experience and his emphasis on creating the right environment for players to develop.

“I’m looking forward to working with the Dutch men’s team, which has become a fixture at the T20 World Cups. This is a talented, motivated group, and my goal is to help continue that development and move the programme forward. My approach starts with connection, before the tactic or the plan. I can’t wait to get started,” Noffke said.
