John Campbell hits a brilliant hundred in 2nd ODI

West Indies opener John Campbell produced a commanding batting display in the second ODI against India at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, reaching a memorable century in emphatic fashion. The left-hander showcased an aggressive approach from the outset, putting pressure on the Indian bowling attack and providing the West Indies with a major boost at the top of the order.

Campbell’s innings stood out for its intent as he repeatedly looked to attack the bowlers rather than settling into a traditional ODI rhythm. His ability to find boundaries and use his feet against the spinners helped him maintain a rapid scoring rate throughout his stay at the crease.

John Campbell reaches century in explosive fashion

Campbell completed his century during the 18th over of the West Indies innings, with Kuldeep Yadav bowling the second delivery. Needing only a single to reach the landmark, the opener calmly completed the run before raising his bat in celebration.

The milestone came off just 65 balls, underlining the extraordinary pace at which Campbell had scored his runs. He remained unbeaten on 101 from 68 deliveries, continuing to attack the Indian bowlers even after reaching three figures.

His celebration reflected the significance of the innings, with his partner Hope walking across to congratulate him. Campbell had taken the initiative against India’s attack and ensured that the West Indies were firmly placed during the early stages of their innings.

Aggressive approach puts India under pressure

Rather than waiting for loose deliveries, Campbell consistently looked to create scoring opportunities. He targeted gaps in the field and was particularly willing to advance down the pitch against India’s frontline spinners. That approach allowed him to dictate the tempo of the innings. His unbeaten 101 off 68 balls also demonstrated how effectively he converted his attacking intent into a substantial score.

The century represented a sharp contrast to Campbell’s previous notable performance against India. During the Delhi Test in October 2025, he made a patient 115 from 199 balls, an innings built around defence, concentration and leaving the ball effectively.

This time, however, the opener adopted an entirely different method, taking the game to the opposition from the beginning.

From patient Test batter to ODI aggressor

Campbell’s latest performance also added another chapter to his record against India. His Test century in Delhi showed his ability to occupy the crease for long periods, while his Guwahati hundred highlighted his capacity to score quickly and dominate an attack in limited-overs cricket.

The innings also brought back memories of his career-best 179 against Ireland in 2019, another performance that showcased his ability to produce a high-impact score when he gets into rhythm.

With Campbell still unbeaten after reaching his century, West Indies had a batter in complete control at the crease. His 101 off 68 balls provided the visitors with both momentum and a strong platform as the second ODI progressed.
