India secured a thrilling 14-run victory over the West Indies in the third match at the Holkar Cricket Stadium. In a high-scoring encounter, the hosts posted 223 runs in 20 overs before restricting the visitors to 209/7. Abhishek Sharma led India’s batting effort with an explosive half-century, while Arshdeep Singh and Naman Dhir played crucial roles with the ball to help India defend a challenging total.
Abhishek Sharma leads India’s explosive batting display
After winning the toss, the West Indies elected to bowl first, hoping to put pressure on India’s batting lineup. However, the hosts responded with an aggressive approach, led by Abhishek, who smashed 69 runs off just 30 deliveries. His innings featured six fours and five sixes, providing India with the momentum needed to build a formidable total.
Ishan Kishan also made a valuable contribution, scoring 37 off 18 balls with six boundaries and a six. The pair ensured India maintained an impressive scoring rate during the early stages of the innings. However, the West Indies fought back through timely wickets. Sanju Samson managed just three runs, while Shreyas Iyer departed for one. Tilak Varma added 28 off 16 deliveries, keeping the scoring rate healthy as India looked to accelerate further.
Dhir contributed 10 off five balls, while Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 21 off 14 deliveries. Axar Patel added 20 runs from 14 balls, and Arshdeep Singh chipped in with 11. Prince Yadav provided a late flourish with 13 off six deliveries as India were bowled out for 223 in 20 overs.
Roston Chase and Shamar Joseph claimed two wickets each for the West Indies, while Shamar Springer also picked up two scalps. Keemo Paul and Gudakesh Motie took one wicket apiece as the visitors managed to prevent India from pushing beyond the 230-run mark.
West Indies fight back through Kamil Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer
Chasing 224 for victory, the West Indies needed a strong start but lost captain Shai Hope for five runs. Kamil Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer then attempted to rebuild the innings with aggressive strokeplay, keeping the visitors in contention during the middle overs.
Pooran scored 42 off 27 deliveries, including three fours and three sixes, while Hetmyer contributed 43 from 26 balls with six fours and two sixes. Their efforts helped the West Indies maintain pressure on the Indian bowlers, although the required run rate continued to demand attacking cricket.
Rovman Powell could manage only five runs before Sherfane Rutherford added 32 off 20 deliveries. Quentin Sampson also played a useful knock of 21 from 15 balls, but India continued to strike at important moments to prevent the visitors from gaining complete control of the chase.
The West Indies still had hope when Springer launched a late counterattack. He smashed 35 runs from just 11 deliveries, including two fours and four sixes, bringing the required total within reach during the closing stages. However, his aggressive innings could not carry the visitors over the line.

Arshdeep Singh and Naman Dhir help India seal victory
India’s bowling attack delivered at crucial moments to protect the total. Arshdeep was the leading wicket-taker, finishing with figures of 3/44 from four overs. Dhir provided an important breakthrough with two wickets for 39 runs in three overs, while Axar and Nitish claimed one wicket each.
Nitish was particularly economical, conceding just 19 runs in his two overs while picking up a wicket. Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav went wicketless, but their contributions helped India navigate a demanding contest against an aggressive West Indies batting lineup.
Despite Springer’s late assault, the visitors finished on 209/7 in their 20 overs, falling 14 runs short of the target. India’s ability to take wickets at critical stages proved decisive in a match where both sides demonstrated considerable batting firepower.
