The Women’s Premier League (WPL) has become an important platform for emerging Indian cricketers and established international stars, with each auction offering franchises an opportunity to strengthen their squads. The WPL 2027 auction will take place in Kochi on Wednesday, October 28, as five teams prepare for the upcoming season. With 146 players competing for 27 available slots, the auction promises to be a crucial step in shaping the teams ahead of the tournament, scheduled to run from January 14 to February 7, 2027. The event will begin at 5:30 PM IST at the Grand Hyatt Kochi.

146 players to go under the hammer

Kochi will host the WPL auction for the first time, adding a new venue to the tournament’s growing history. A total of 146 cricketers have registered for the event, including 119 Indians and 27 overseas players. The overseas contingent also features six players from associate nations.

Among the Indian registrations are 22 capped and 97 uncapped players. Of the 27 vacancies across the five franchises, 20 are reserved for Indian cricketers and seven for overseas recruits.

Youngest and Oldest players at the auction

Karnataka’s Uma Kashvi and Delhi’s Anshu Nagar, both aged 15, are the youngest players in the auction pool. Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, at 36, is the oldest.

Sophia Dunkley and Sophie Molineux lead highest price bracket

England batter Sophia Dunkley and Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux have entered the auction with the highest base price of Rs 50 lakh each. Their registrations place them among the notable overseas names available to the franchises.

The Rs 40 lakh bracket features four players: India’s G. Kamalini and Kiran Navgire, along with Australia’s Heather Graham and Jess Jonassen.

Several experienced international and Indian cricketers have registered at a base price of Rs 30 lakh. The list includes Athapaththu, Australia’s Grace Harris, Ireland’s Orla Prendergast, South Africa’s Chloe Tryon and New Zealand’s Rosemary Mair. Indian players such as Sneh Rana, Titas Sadhu, Saika Ishaque and Asha Sobhana are also in this category.

The remaining registrations are spread across the Rs 20 lakh and Rs 10 lakh brackets, providing teams with options to recruit younger prospects and strengthen their squads within their budgets.
