India secured a dramatic four-run victory over New Zealand via the DLS method in the second ODI at the Hnry Stadium in Wellington. The contest was eventually called off due to persistent rain, with the visitors narrowly ahead when play was stopped. The result gave India a 2-0 lead in the five-match series after another challenging outing for both batting line-ups. While the bowlers dominated proceedings, the late interruption and narrow DLS margin made for a dramatic finish.
Gurnoor Brar stars as India bowl out New Zealand for 134
After winning the toss and opting to field, India made full use of the overcast conditions. Auqib Nabi struck early by dismissing Tim Seifert for a duck and Will Young for six, before Anshul Kamboj removed Henry Nicholls to leave New Zealand reeling at 23/3. Gurnoor Brar then caused further damage by dismissing Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips in quick succession.
Daryl Mitchell offered some resistance with 55 off 104 deliveries and shared a 59-run stand with Mitchell Santner, who scored 31. However, Brar returned to break the partnership and finished with career-best figures of 4/30. Axar Patel and Auqib Nabi claimed two wickets apiece as New Zealand were bowled out for 134 in 41 overs. Kamboj also chipped in with a wicket, ensuring India had a modest target to chase in the rain-shortened 47-over contest.
Rain interrupts India’s chase after New Zealand fight back
India’s reply got off to a disastrous start as Jacob Duffy dismissed Shubman Gill for a golden duck and Virat Kohli for just seven runs. Rohit Sharma scored 23 before departing, leaving the visitors struggling at 47/4. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul attempted to steady the innings, with Iyer contributing 30 before falling to the New Zealand attack.
Kyle Jamieson and Duffy picked up three wickets each as India slipped to 113/7 in 26 overs, with Rahul unbeaten on 26. India needed another 22 runs when heavy rain stopped play. However, with the DLS par score at 109, the visitors were four runs ahead and were declared winners. Brar was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.

KL Rahul has to be one of the most comfortable Indian batters on difficult overseas pitches. The technique, the composure and the calmness he brings to the crease are simply outstanding. A pleasure to watch him bat. @klrahul
