Kavem Hodge breaks Darren Bravo’s long-standing record

Hodge went past Darren Bravo’s record of 127, scored against Bangladesh in Khulna in 2012. The milestone came as the right-handed batter continued his outstanding innings in the second innings of the Sylhet Test.

The record highlights Hodge’s growing importance in the West Indies batting lineup. His 140 not out was also the highest score of his Test career, surpassing his previous best and underlining his ability to perform under pressure in overseas conditions.

Hodge and Kevin Wickham rescue West Indies

West Indies entered their second innings trailing Bangladesh by 30 runs after the hosts posted 386 in reply to the visitors’ first-innings total of 356.

Openers Brandon King and Joshua Da Silva provided a solid foundation with an 85-run partnership. King scored 61, while Da Silva contributed 36 before being dismissed by Taijul Islam.

Hodge then joined debutant Kevin Wickham at the crease, and the pair produced the defining partnership of the innings. They added 165 runs for the third wicket, putting Bangladesh’s bowlers under sustained pressure.

Wickham continued his impressive debut by scoring 78 off 107 deliveries. His innings included seven fours and two sixes, making him the first West Indies batter in 48 years to register half-centuries in both innings on his Test debut.

Hodge reached his century from 142 balls and continued batting confidently after Wickham’s dismissal. He remained unbeaten when bad light forced an early end to the day’s play.

The visitors will now look to use their advantage to put Bangladesh under pressure on the final day. Having already won the opening Test in Dhaka, West Indies are within reach of completing a 2-0 series victory.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, will need an exceptional performance to turn the contest around and level the series.
