Chisora vs. Pulev 2, Magsayo vs. Vargas: How to watch, start times, and the whole boxing schedule for July 5-9, 2022

Jul 11, 2022

Derek Chisora and Kubrat Pulev collide once again in London, plus Mark Magsayo vs. Rey Vargas and more!

On Tuesday, July 5,

Shields vs. Marshall news conference, 9:30 a.m. ET on YouTube. It may become heated. We won’t have live coverage because, as previously said, there is never a true ounce of interest in live press conference coverage, but we’ll have the quotes and all that when it’s finished.

Thursday, 7th of July

Chisora versus Pulev 2 news conference, 8:00 a.m. ET on DAZN and social media.

Magsayo versus Vargas news conference, 2:00 p.m. ET on YouTube and Facebook.

Thursday, July 8

Chisora versus Pulev 2 weigh-in, 8:00 a.m. ET on DAZN and social media.

Magsayo versus Vargas weigh-in, 2:00 p.m. ET on YouTube and Facebook.

The 9th of July

Chisora versus Pulev 2 prelims, 12:30 p.m. ET on DAZN and social media. This part should include either Fabio Wardley vs. TBA or Felix Cash vs. Vaughn Alexander, as well as the return of either Ramla Ali or Solomon Dacres, as well as Yousuf Ibrahim. Matchroom may be aiming for a five-hour main event, but we’ll have to wait and see. The broadcast will be live on BLH.

Derek Chisora vs. Kubrat Pulev 2, DAZN, 2:00 p.m. ET This isn’t a fight anybody wanted, but Chisora’s going to fight, he’s still selling tickets, and he’s to fight someone. Pulev is going to fight, he’s a great “B-side,” and he’s previously defeated Chisora, so there’s some narrative there. Chisora has lost three games in a row and is more disheveled. A rematch between Israil Madrimov and Michel Soro as an eliminator at 154 is the best contest here. Caoimhin Agyarko is also competing against Lukasz Maciec, among others. The broadcast will be live on BLH.

Magsayo against Vargas prelims, YouTube, 7:00 p.m. ET. I’m hoping this isn’t another bad “watchalong” activity, but I’m afraid it will be. If it is, I will not be watching. If it isn’t, I’ll do it. Rashidi Ellis will face Alberto Palmetta in a 10-round welterweight fight, while Ramon Cardenas will face Michell Banquez in a 10-round bantamweight battle. BLH may provide live coverage.

Mark Magsayo vs. Rey Vargas, Brandon Figueroa vs. Carlos Castro, and Frank Martin vs. Ricardo Nunez, SHO, 9:00 p.m. ET. The evening will also feature Brandon Figueroa and Carlos Castro in a WBC eliminator at 126, both coming off defeats at 122; if you’re still confused about how sanctioning body instructions operate, this makes it very apparent that they do what the actual power brokers want them to do. Martin is an unbeaten 27-year-old lightweight, whereas Nunez was decimated by Gervonta Davis in two rounds a few years back. Magsayo is making his first defense of his WBC title at 126, but many will regard him as the underdog against Vargas, a clever, undefeated former 122-pound champion with plenty of height and length for 126. A win here would be back-to-back massive victories for Magsayo, totally legitimizing him as a top featherweight, but it won’t be easy. It’s an excellent matchup. The broadcast will be live on BLH.

Cesar Francis vs. Raymundo Beltran, ProBox TV, 9:00 p.m. ET. On paper, this isn’t much of a main event, but I think it’ll be a nice fight. Beltran is 41 years old and was last seen by most three years ago, when Richard Commey smashed him. He has only fought once since, a club-level victory in October. But Beltran has always been scrappy and cunning, and while Francis has the record (10-0, 6 KO) of a young prospect, he isn’t; he’s 31 years old, was born in Panama, and is currently based in Brooklyn. He is coming off two strong wins in a row, one over previously undefeated Jose Roman in October and another over Mohamed Mimoune in February. We’re not covering it live because I can’t emphasize enough how much of a professional waste of time these programs are in terms of what we get back in terms of ratings, plus there’s a terrific Showtime show on head-to-head. But this may be a terrific bout to watch quietly, and it’ll be available for replays and all if you have ProBox.
