1st ODI Match Afghanistan vs Netherlands Match Details, Team News, Pitch Report and the Match Prediction

Jan 21, 2022

Afghanistan will be playing against the Netherlands in the upcoming ODI series to be played in Qatar. This series is a part of the ODI Super League and will count towards qualification for the 2023 ODI World Cup to be held in India. This makes the series very important for both teams.Afghanistan is going to be playing with a few young faces and it names four uncapped players in the squad. The Netherlands will be hoping to build on their white-ball success in recent years and translate that into victories in the ODI format as well.

The cricket betting sites are predictable, offering very short odds for Afghanistan thus making them the heavy favorites to win this match.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for Afghanistan vs Netherlands, 1st ODI 2022. The match is going to be played at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium, Doha on the 21st of January 2022.

Afghanistan is going to be without Mohammad Nabi and Naveen ul Haq for this series. While Nabi has chosen not to play and make way for youngsters to gain some experience, Naveen ul Haq is going to be focussing on the 20 over format. His loss is perhaps bigger for Afghanistan since their fast-bowling resources are a bit bare.

Still, Afghanistan has some very good players in its team to rely on. Rahmanullah Gurbaz will open the batting and look to provide the impetus up front. The batting unit will also featureNajibullah Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Usman Ghani. Afghanistan has a lot of experience but the bulk of the runs will have to be scored by Shahidi and Shah.

This is not a very secure batting order by any means and we always worry that a collapse is around the corner.

Afghanistan does have some good all-round batting talent in Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan.

The batting is not Afghanistan’s strong point, though. It is bowling. This is where Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Qais Ahmad will form a spin-trio that is very tough to face. The fast bowling is not the greatest but Gulbadin Naib and possibly Yamin AHmedzai are not the worst either.

The Netherlands would have been quite disappointed at their performance in the T20 World Cup just a few months ago. That was the format in which the Netherlands had impressed over the past few years and also the format in which it plays most of its cricket. Moving to the 50 over format can be a bit tricky, however, don’t count out the team just yet.

There are more than a couple of players that are capable of influencing the match decisively.Bas de Leede is one of the best batsmen to have come out of the Netherlands in recent years. He is going to be supported by Colin Ackerman (a veteran on the county circuit) and Pieter Seelaar, who is one of the most experienced associate players going around.

The problem is in the depth of the batting lineup as you cannot hope for just a couple of players to score the runs every single time. Some of the youngsters will have to step up big time.

Fred Klaassen will lead the bowling attack. He is an excellent left-arm fast bowler who gets the ball to swing early and can trouble the Afghanistan batting. Brandon Glover, Colin Ackerman, and Vivian Kingma are some of the other bowlers that should help constitute the attack in the first match.

Match: Afghanistan vs Netherlands, 1st ODI.
Date and Time: January 21st 2022, Friday, 12:30 PM IST.
Venue: West End Park International Cricket Stadium, Doha.

The pitch at West End Park International Cricket Stadium is a balanced track. The new ball comes nicely onto the bat and the batters can hit through the line. The surface is expected to get slower as the game progresses, assisting spinners from both sides.

The temperature in Doha is expected to hover between 12 to 17 degrees Celsius. Cloud cover will be present throughout the day.

Hashmatullah Shahidi will be leading the Afghan side. He will be eager to lead by example and kick off his captaincy stint with a win.

Pieter Seelaar will lead the Dutch side in this series. He has plenty of experience and will look forward to performing well against a good opposition.

The ODI series between the two sides will be part of the ICC Cricket World Super League. Both sides will be eager to get an early lead in the competition as thirty crucial points are up for grabs.

The Afghans have a good balance to their side and expect them to beat the Dutch on Friday.
