After a blockbuster T20I series, the focus now shifts to the One Day Internationals as India( IND) and Sri Lanka( SL) face each other in the first game at the Barsapra Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on January 10. The hosts would be oozing with confidence, having registered a 2- 1 win in the T20Is and would be eager to replicate the performances in the 50- over format.
The Indian team still would also be apprehensive of the fact that they’re heading into this particular series on the reverse of two successive ODI series defeats in the last two months. While they lost 0- 1 to New Zealand in November, they were handed a 1- 2 loss by Bangladesh down from home. Thus, they must pull up their socks as the World Cup medications get underway.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, would be eyeing redemption after going down in the T20I series and will be leaving no gravestone unturned to make a comeback in the ODIs. The Sri lanka side will want to redeem their name after their match with AFghanistan in November, which ended at 1- 1.
Still, with Kohli back, the place where Suryakumar Yadav batons remains to be seen. Suryakumar was in phenomenal form in the T20Is after he became the leading run- arranger. Pacer Arshdeep Singh did n’t have a memorable ODI debut in New Zealand and he’ll want to make amends.
The focus will also be on Rohit Sharma, who’ll be making a comeback following an injury layoff. Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill were two of India’s name batters in ODIs last time. The main focus will mainly be on KL Rahul after his game with Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will depend heavily on their commander Dasun Shanaka to lead from the front. The spin triad of Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage will have to play a big part. Kusal Mendis also needs to carry his form from the T20Is into the 50- over format.
