New York Strikers will take on Morrisville Samp Army in match 28 of the Abu Dhabi T10 League 2023 on Thursday, December 7, at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Morrisville have had an excellent campaign thus far in the tournament, winning four out of their five games. They started with a narrow nine-run defeat against the Northern Warriors but bounced back to win four games in a row. Moeen Ali has led the team well and has been backed up nicely by his teammates.
Wicketkeeper-batter Andries Gous is the leading run-getter for Morrisville in the tournament thus far. In four games he has scored 120 runs at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 181.82. Fellow opener Faf du Plessis has also given his team some quick starts, scoring 99 runs in five games at a strike rate of 190.38.
The bowling department has done well because two of their bowlers have been on song. Both Qais Ahmed and Jason Holder have picked up eight wickets apiece from five matches at an average of 8.88 and 10.12, respectively. Salman Irshad has also contributed by picking up seven wickets in five games at an average of 13.86.
Incidentally, New York Strikers have also won four out of the five games they have played and their only defeat came in their first encounter against Deccan Gladiators. The experienced Kieron Pollard has been exceptional as a leader.
Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz is the top run-getter for the franchise as he has amassed 120 runs in four games at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 169.01. Muhammad Waseem has also done relatively well at the top with Gurbaz. The 29-year-old has scored 114 runs in five games at a strike rate of 178.12.
With the ball, Chamika Karunaratne has been among the wickets. In five matches, he has bagged nine wickets at an average of 11.22. The experienced trio of Akeal Hosein, Sunil Narine, and Mohammad Amir have been quite economical. Left-arm seamer Muhammad Jawadullah has also been impressive with his variations.
This promises to be an intriguing contest between two in-form teams. The team which emerges victorious could finish the league stage on top of the points table.
