In an intense showdown between Rangpur Riders and Durdanto Dhaka at the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024, the focal point shifted from the dynamic batting prowess of former Pakistan captain Babar Azam to a fiery on-field confrontation that left both spectators and players in disbelief.
Azam and Brandon King opened the innings for the Riders. However, Azam’s initial struggle to find his rhythm and capitalize on the powerplay led to visible frustration, laying the groundwork for an unexpected turn of events later in the match.
The heated confrontation between Babar Azam and Irfan Sukkur
Amidst Azam’s growing discontent, a heated exchange unfolded when Durdanto’s wicket-keeper Irfan Sukkur accused Azam of employing a foul language against him. Despite attempts from his partner Mohammad Nabi, umpires and Durdanto’s captain to quell the situation, Azam vehemently denied any intentional aggression towards Sukkur. The on-field drama escalated as Azam unleashed a barrage of verbal exchanges directed at the Durdanto wicket-keeper.

Comprehensive victory for Rangpur Riders
Despite the controversy, Azam played a valiant knock of 62 runs from 46 deliveries and guided the Riders’ victory. Fuelled by Azam’s stellar performance, the Riders clinched a convincing win as the Dhaka side was bundled out for a mere 104, while chasing 167. With this win, the Riders have moved to the fourth spot in the BPL 2024 points table.
While Azam’s batting brilliance remained evident, the altercation with Sukkur adds an unforeseen layer to the narrative, leaving cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipating further developments. The league organizers are now under scrutiny to address the on-field tensions that unfolded during the match.
