Biju George was just appointed fielding coach of the Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). George has previously worked with the Indian women’s cricket team and served the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as well. The Delhi Capitals’ promoter confirmed the appointment, citing George’s generous international cricket experience.

“We have taken him for the season and he comes with good years of experience – both in IPL and international cricket,” the promoter revealed in an interview with Cricbuzz. The Delhi Capitals will have their first match of the tournament on March 27, playing against the Mumbai Indians. The team will have to manage without two of their premier bowlers, Lungi Ngidi and Anrich Nortje, as they may not be able to play for the initial few matches of DC in the 2022 IPL season.

Nortje is still not physically cleared to compete while Ngidi might get included in the South African squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which will go on up to April 12, 2022.

The Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals qualified for the knockout stages of the league last year, but they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the second Qualifier, with the latter beating the Capitals with 3 wickets to spare to qualify for the competition’s summit clash.

The Delhi Capitals, which has yet to win an IPL title, is set to arrive in Mumbai on March 10, before the 15th edition of the league.
