As part of a five-year mutual cooperation agreement, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) have agreed that the national team’s home matches will be played at UAE venues of the highest caliber.

For the term of the deal, ACB will play an annual series of three T20I matches against UAE. The Emirates Cricket Board will also offer the Afghanistan Cricket Board crucial logistical support, including office space and help with visas.

Afghanistan has become well-known in the cricketing world, but due to security concerns and a lack of facilities fit for international competition, they have never played home matches there.

Their adopted home sites from 2018 to 2019 were Greater Noida and Dehradun. From 2010 to 2016, Sharjah served as their primary location. In 2019 because of logistical challenges in Dehradun, they also played an all-format home series against the West Indies at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

The CEO of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Naseeb Khan, hailed the cooperation between the two nations in a formal statement and expressed his optimism that the arrangement would be successful and considerably advance future aims.

“Both the Emirates and Afghanistan Cricket Boards enjoy long, cordial relations, and we are happy to support the ACB in ensuring that they have a home for their cricket.”

“We are also thankful to the Afghanistan Cricket Board for agreeing to play T20 internationals against the UAE Team each year. This will provide our UAE team with invaluable exposure and help in their development,” said Mubashshir Usmani, General Secretary, Emirates Cricket Board.

Currently, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are playing a three-match ODI series on the road.

When and where to watch the ODI series of Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan

A three-match One Day series featuring the Afghanistan cricket team will take place in Sri Lanka. The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium will host all three games on November 25, November 27, and November 30.

The ODI series is crucial for both countries because it will affect their prospects of qualifying for the ODI World Cup, which is set to take place in India next year. In the standings, Afghanistan is in seventh place. In June of last year, they faced Zimbabwe in their penultimate ODI series. The Afghans defeated Zimbabwe in a three-match series with a 3-0 victory. The team will be going with their full strength because all of the important players are available for selection.

The team may not be very confident, though, given they did not manage to win even a single league game during the T20 World Cup 2022.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka are in a difficult spot in the Super League standings. They are ranked tenth. In order for the island nation to qualify for the World Cup, it must win the majority of its future ODI series. Additionally, Sri Lanka fell short of expectations in the T20 World Cup 2022.

In terms of the overall record, Sri Lanka has the advantage. In four games, they had three victories over Afghanistan.

There will be no Indian broadcast of the three-match ODI series. On the International Cricket Council’s official website, live streaming of the Afghanistan tour of Sri Lanka in 2022 will be available (ICC).
