The Pakistan team had disappointed its fans around the world. They had not been as good as many of us were expecting. They lost their first match against India and then were beaten by Zimbabwe. We think that was a turning point. Pakistan had played three matches with just one win to their name. They have lost two matches and are laying at the second position from the bottom of the points table of Super 12 Group 2. We don’t think that Pakistan has any chance to qualify for the semi-finals.

South Africa is currently leading the table of Super 12 Group 2. They had not lost any matches in this tournament. They had played three matches with two wins to their name while their one match was washed out by the rain. They have a bright chance to qualify for the semi-finals. They had beaten India in their previous match. They had still one more match left against the Netherlands.

Pakistan Reviews

Pakistan lost two matches by a very close margin. These were the matches that Pakistan could easily win but failed to get over the line. Both earlier matches in Pakistan had been very interesting. They beat the Netherlands in their previous match and this was the first win of Pakistan in Australia and also in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. They lost the toss and were put into bat first. The way how the bowling unit of Pakistan performed in this match was outstanding. They destroyed the batting order of the Netherlands. They leaked just 91 runs in 20 overs. Shadab Khan was the most successful and highest wicket-taker from their side who picked three wickets in four overs against 22 runs. Mohammad Wasim Jr was the other bowler who was just superb with the ball. He picked up two wickets in three overs while he was charged with 15 runs. Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf picked one wicket each while Mohammad Nawaz was the only bowler who failed to pick any wicket.

The key problem of Pakistan had been their batting order. They are dependent on Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan for run-scoring but both batters are not performing well in this tournament. They were opening the batting inning for Pakistan and had not provided a good start in any match. Fakhar Zaman was given a chance in the final playing eleven of the previous match but they failed to put some big runs on the board. Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed also failed in the conditions of Australia. Mohammad Rizwan showed some good batting in the previous match and scored 49 runs but he faced 39 balls for this and smashed five boundaries. He failed to complete his fifty. The skipper, Babar Azam once again failed to score some big runs and scored just four runs. Fakhar Zaman could manage to score just 20 runs on 16 balls with a strike rate of just above 125. Shan Masood scored 12 runs. It will be interesting to see how these batters perform against the strong bowling unit of South Africa.
