GUWAHATI, India – Jasprit Bumrah will be out. Allowing his propensity to collapse after playing uninterrupted cricket, it is believed that Bumrah is best off being given a little more time before making a full recovery. The World Cup, which will be contested in India later this year, the Indian Premier League, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy versus Australia at home over a four-match series starting next week, and the World Test Championship final are all events that Bumrah is expected to participate in.

On the eve of India’s series opener against Sri Lanka, the BCCI has dropped Jasprit Bumrah from the three-match ODI lineup due to the string of key series that lie ahead. Bumrah has been removed from the roster for the upcoming series per the directives of the NCA. His first cricket-related task since October is this one.

The updated Indian team for the one-day international series against Sri Lanka includes: The team’s captain is Rohit Sharma, along with Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Mohd. Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Shami Siraj.

According to a BCCI announcement, the All-India Senior Selection Committee has not yet picked Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement. Jasprit Bumrah, who was scheduled to join the team in Guwahati prior to the ODI series, has been excluded from the forthcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka because he needs more time to develop his bowling resilience.

At first, it was believed that Bumrah’s progress had delighted the BCCI because of his ability to recover from his back ailment. The BCCI decided to keep India’s top bowler away until he had fully recovered after Bumrah’s injury flared up again after he was forced to return for the T20Is against Australia before the World Cup. Bumrah did not go with the Indian team to Guwahati, where the first ODI was played.

Bumrah continued to post footage of his training and anticipated return on social media while recuperating even though he was left out of India’s inaugural team. In the end, the board decided to bring him on after a fruitful start to the new year. Bumrah’s comeback to first-class cricket, though, looks to have been delayed because the pacer might not yet be ready.

In Bumrah, injuries are nothing new. Bumrah missed the ODI and T20I series against England for three weeks in 2018 due to a fractured left thumb. After the 2019 World Cup, Bumrah missed the home Test series against South Africa because of a stress fracture in his lower back. He then traveled to the UK for medical care. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah had an abdominal strain and was unable to participate in the fourth Test at the Gabba during India’s tour of Australia in 2020–21.

Bumrah had played without an injury for more than a year thanks to painstaking care, but during India’s limited-overs tour of England, during which he had taken 6/19 at The Oval, the bowler suffered a back ailment. As a result, Bumrah was dropped from India’s Asia Cup campaign. In the two T20I matches he played against Australia in Nagpur and Hyderabad, he recorded scores of 1/23 and 0/50 before the illness returned and forced him to miss the World Cup in Australia.

In hindsight to Jasprit’s condition and decision from last week

Just last week, Bumrah was set to return to the tournament preceding a long hiatus that started in the 4th quarter of last year. A back injury from the previous year had hindered him from playing onwards since the decision to put him on rest for recovery. However, in the ODI vs Sri Lanka, Bumrah has then been seen playing once more and will be playing again. Or so we thought. The decision from last week has now been revised and pulled.
