Western Australia and Perth Scorchers’ coach, Adam Voges, is hoping to see Lance Morris get his Test debut for Australia against India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The former Australian cricketer feels the first Test in Nagpur seems to be the opportunity for the 24-year-old to appear in the Whites for the Baggy Greens.

When asked if the young pacer is ready to make his Test debut, “I think Lance is a chance, absolutely. With Mitchell Starc ruled out of the first Test, I think that’ll be Lance’s best opportunity to potentially get a game. I think the Australians will just wait and see what conditions they’re confronted with,” Voges told SEN.

Morris has recently won the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year, in the Cricket Australia awards. He has recently left the Scorchers’ camp ahead of the Big Bash League final to join the Australian squad for the Test series in India, where the WA all-rounder is likely to get a chance in the playing XI with Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc, both nursing their finger injuries.

“We’re all really hopeful that Lance does get an opportunity over in India but if it doesn’t happen this time around, I don’t think it’ll be too far away. The last 24 months that he’s had in WA and Scorchers colours have been excellent and he’ll get that opportunity at some stage,” Adam Voges concluded.

Morris is also one of the four seamers in the Australian squad alongside Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Boland. The Aussies will begin their training session on Thursday in Bengaluru.

The four-match Test series will begin on February 9, followed by three-match ODI series starting on March 17.

Here’s the Australian squad for the Test series against India:

Pat Cummins (capt), Ashton Agar, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Peter Handscomb, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Lance Morris, Todd Murphy, Matthew Renshaw, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Swepson, and David Warner.
