In their rematch on Tuesday (January 17), Dwayne Bravo and Imran Tahir shone with the ball as MI Emirates easily defeated Sharjah Warriors in Sharjah. As a result of being punished for their poor performance with the bat, Warriors are now winless.
Trent Boult gave Rahmanullah Gurbaz a head start by allowing him to hit a couple of boundaries in the first over, but the New Zealand bowler ultimately triumphed with a bouncer in the subsequent over. After only six overs, Warriors had accelerated to 59/1 when Tom Kohler-Cadmore hammered Fazalhaq Farooqui for four boundaries in one over. From this point forward, they would have expected to give their opponent a huge total to try to beat. The runs did, however, begin to disappear, and the bowling side took complete control of the innings’ second half.
In order to orchestrate a collapse, Bravo got rid of Dawid Malan. In the next over, Moeen Ali found the long-on fielder. When Kohler-Cadmore, who was already over fifty, failed to understand a flipper from Tahir, he was given the age of 55. The batting side then lost four wickets in the span of 20 runs, with Bravo taking out Joe Denly and Mohammad Nabi in the same over. Even 140 would not have been broken if Paul Walter had not made a surprise appearance right at the finish.
On the other hand, MI Emirates kept up a persistent pursuit. Will Smeed reached the boundary four times in the first three overs and added two more before being bowled by Junaid Siddique. However, Muhammad Waseem recovered and continued to bat well. Waseem batted calmly despite the low target of 147 after scoring 71 against this assault in their most recent match just a few days prior.
Following a six and a four from Walter, Waseem gradually reached 40. Nicholas Pooran finished that over with a streaking boundary to subtract 15 from it. After that, Nabi bowled a single over in which he also got rid of Waseem, but over the next three overs, Pooran and Kieron Pollard blasted four sixes to significantly change the equation. Even though Pollard inside-edged a ball onto his stumps, MI still won handily thanks to Pooran, who completed the task in the following over.
The Score:
Sharjah Warriors 146/7 in 20 overs (Tom Kohler-Cadmore 55, Paul Walter 28*; Dwayne Bravo 3/25, Imran Tahir 2/17) lost to MI Emirates 147/4 in 17.1 overs (Muhammad Waseem 40, Nicholas Pooran 39*; Junaid Siddique 2/24) by six wickets.
