Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batters went on a rampage against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 8 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, posting a mammoth 277/3 in their 20 overs. This score rewrites the record books, as it becomes the highest team total in IPL history. The previous record of 263/5 belonged to the Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in 2013.

The dominance of SRH batsmen was on full display. Travis Head blazed to a quickfire 18-ball fifty, including nine fours and three sixes, before departing for a well-made 62. Abhishek Sharma stole the show with a record-breaking knock. His 16-ball fifty, laced with three fours and seven towering sixes, makes him the fastest SRH batsman to reach a half-century in the IPL.

Aiden Markram provided valuable support with an unbeaten 42 off 28 deliveries. Heinrich Klaasen, fresh off a whirlwind fifty against KKR, continued his good form with an unbeaten 80 off 34 balls, including four boundaries and seven maximums.

The onslaught didn’t stop there. SRH set a new franchise record for the highest powerplay score (overs 1-6) with a staggering 81/1. Head was at the forefront, scoring 62 off just 24 balls in this phase. His unbeaten 59 in the powerplay becomes the second-highest score by an SRH batsman in this crucial period.

SRH continued to pile on the runs, reaching a massive 148/2 at the halfway mark – the highest team score after 10 overs in IPL history. They didn’t relent in the death overs either, adding a further 75 runs in the final five overs to put Mumbai Indians under immense pressure.

This match will be remembered for the sheer dominance displayed by the SRH batting unit. They not only secured a comfortable win against MI but also etched their names in the history books with a record-breaking performance.
