Justin Langer, the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), recounted the tale of his frustration during the 3rd match of the Ashes 2019. England were in a favorable position against Australia, and Ben Stokes single-handedly turned the tide, clinching the victory for England. Langer vividly recalls his anger boiling over, leading to the memorable incident of kicking the dustbin in frustration during that pivotal innings.

Justin Langer recalls the moment

Upon inquiry from a fan, Langer elaborated on the pivotal moment. He stressed the significance of defeating England, emphasizing that in that particular test match, England required merely 4 runs to secure victory. Stokes was at the crease alongside Jack Leach when the critical incident unfolded during fielding. Pat Cummins threw the ball to Nathan Lyon, who failed to grab it, resulting in a missed run-out opportunity.

Consequently, England clinched the match by a mere 1 wicket. In the heat of the moment, Langer’s frustration boiled over, leading him to kick a nearby dustbin, an act captured on video and swiftly circulated online. However, moments later, Langer realized his error and promptly restored the dustbin to its rightful place.

Match winning partnership by Ben stokes and Jack Leach

In the third test match, England found themselves in a precarious situation, requiring 359 runs to win in their final innings. The target seemed daunting, especially as they stumbled with a shaky start, losing 2 wickets with only 15 runs on the board. However, Joe Root (77) and Joe Denly (50) formed a resilient partnership, adding 126 runs and revitalizing England’s chances. Despite this effort, England continued to lose wickets steadily.

With the score at 286 runs and 9 wickets down, England had just one wicket remaining and still needed 73 runs to secure victory. Stokes and Leach stepped up to the crease, forging a crucial partnership of 76 runs, ultimately clinching the win for England. Stokes’ unbeaten score of 135 earned him the Player of the Match title, recognizing his exceptional performance.
