Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured their place in the playoffs and clinched a top-two spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 points table, making them the first team to do so. However, their second last league stage match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium was called off due to relentless rain in Ahmedabad on Monday.

Before the anticipated clash, Nitish Rana was approached for a pre-match interview. Notably, Nitish had missed 10 matches for KKR due to a finger injury before making his comeback in their last game against the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Nitish Rana’s hilarious response to Harsha Bhogle

During the conversation, Harsha Bhogle inquired about Nitish’s finger injury, seeking assurance of its condition. To this, Nitish responded with a witty remark, leaving fans in splits. The KKR batter told Harsha that his injury was alright, but he joked that he couldn’t show it as it involved his middle finger, sparking laughter. Nitish expressed happiness at his comeback after sitting out for 10 matches. The 30-year-old cricketer also acknowledged that it had been a tough phase for him as he had never faced an injury in his cricketing career before.

“It’s alright but since the finger is the middle one, I can’t show it to you. But yeah, much better than before. Happy to be back in the team and feeling good to return after missing so many games because I have never experienced this because never got injured,” Nitish said in the pre-match interview, as quoted by India TV.

Nitish expresses his happiness with KKR’s management

Nitish expressed gratitude to the KKR management for their trust in him and for reintegrating him into the team despite his prolonged absence. He emphasized his frustration at missing matches, knowing he could have contributed positively if the batter had not been injured. The former KKR skipper admitted to disliking the experience of sitting on the sidelines and watching the game instead of being out there playing.

“I think that [missing games] was the most frustrating part because you know that you can perform out there. From outside it feels like cricket is very easy, you feel like you can do everything but the game is played between those 22 yards only. So yeah it was tough because it hasn’t happened with me that I’ll have to sit on the bench and watch the game but I’m thankful to KKR management for showing faith in me that I can make a difference even after missing 10 games,” Nitish concluded.
