In the 49th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, cricket fans witnessed an exciting clash between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday. The match showcased a masterclass from the Punjab, who clinched victory by 7 wickets over Chennai, marking their fifth consecutive win against the Yellow Army. This win also cemented Punjab’s record of not losing a game against CSK since 2021, equaling Mumbai Indians’ (MI) streak during 2018-19.

After restricting Chennai to 162/7, the Sam Curran-led Punjab side successfully chased down the target in 17.5 overs. The top-order duo of Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw played pivotal roles in Punjab’s victory. Bairstow contributed 46 runs off 30 balls, while Rossouw added 43 runs off 23 deliveries, showcasing his prowess with 5 boundaries and 2 sixes.

However, Rossouw’s innings came to an abrupt end in the 12th over when he fell victim to Shardul Thakur‘s delivery. Shardul, known for his variations, bowled a slower delivery that turned into a full toss outside off stump. While the South African stalwart typically dispatches such deliveries with ease, this time he ended up chopping the ball onto his stumps, ending his promising innings.
