After suffering a demoralizing defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 final, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team’s owner stepped up to deliver a much-needed pep talk to lift the team’s spirits. The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for SRH, who were thoroughly outplayed by KKR at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (May 26).
Kavya Maran’s inspirational pep talk
Having won the toss, SRH managed to post only 113 runs before being bowled out in 18.3 overs. In response, KKR chased down the target easily with eight wickets in hand and inside 15 overs thereby clinching their third IPL title. After that despite the disappointing outcome, SRH owner Kavya Maran addressed the team in the dressing room, acknowledging their contribution to redefining T20 cricket. The official social media handle of the franchise posted a heartwarming video featuring Kavya who addressed the dressing room of the team. Even though she expressed her disappointment at their off day but eventually emphasized the importance of maintaining resilience in the face of defeat.
“You all have made us so proud. I had to come here and tell you that. You’ve redefined the way we play T20 cricket and everyone is talking about us. The off day had to happen today, but really great job, all of you with the bat and ball. Thank you so much. Even though we finished last place last year, I think fans came out in huge numbers because of the potential you guys had,” Kavya said.

Kavya also expressed pride in the fact that despite KKR’s victory, people were still talking about SRH. She reminded the players not to dwell on the loss but to recognize the marked improvement they had shown from the previous season. Encouraging them to keep their heads held high, Kavya ensured that everyone in the team left the dressing room with a smile on their faces, even amidst the disappointment of defeat.
“Everyone’s talking about us. Even if KKR won, they’re still going to be talking about the style of cricket that we’ve played. Thank you guys, take care. Don’t look like this. We played the finals, it wasn’t just any other game,” Kavya concluded.
