St Kitts and Nevis Patriots beat Barbados Royals

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 rolled out yet another cracker of a game at Warner Park, where the home side, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, held their nerves to edge out Barbados Royals by 12 runs. Packed with fireworks from both bat and ball, the match had everything a fan could ask for — quick runs at the top, middle-order fireworks, and a late twist before star all-rounder sealed the night for the Patriots.

Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder power St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to a strong total

Asked to bat first, the Patriots had a stuttering start with Evin Lewis and Mohammad Rizwan failing to get going. Andre Fletcher (25 off 16) gave a short burst of energy, but it was Kyle Mayers who steadied the ship with a confident 42 off 28 balls.

The turning point of the innings came when Jason Holder walked out — the all-rounder launched a fiery 38 off just 21 balls, finding the boundary almost every over. With Naseem Shah (19 off 11) and Abbas Afridi (16 off 10) chipping in late, the Patriots ensured they finished with a fighting 174/8 on the board.

Barbados Royals’ bowlers had their moments too. Ramon Simmonds impressed with figures of 3/26, while Daniel Sams used his variations smartly to bag 2/24.

Holder’s 4-fer ends hopes for Barbados Royals

In reply, the Royals looked dangerous right from the start. Brandon King’s fluent 22 and Quinton de Kock’s quick 15 gave them the push, before Kadeem Alleyne lit up the chase with a cracking 42 off 28 balls. Rovman Powell (21) and Sams (16 off 8) kept the scoreboard ticking, and at one stage, the Royals looked well on track to hunt down the target.

But the Patriots kept striking at crucial junctures. Holder returned with the ball and turned executioner, dismantling the Royals’ middle and lower order with a sensational 4/14. Naseem and Navin Bidaisee chipped in with two wickets each as the Royals collapsed to 162 in 18.2 overs, just 12 runs shy of victory.

It was Holder’s night through and through. His explosive cameo with the bat set the tone for the Patriots’ total, and his disciplined, fiery spell with the ball completely broke the Royals’ chase. No surprise then that he walked away with the Player of the Match award.
