Wasim Akram, widely regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers in cricket history, has made significant contributions to the sport both on and off the field. Since his retirement, the former seamer has transitioned into a respected cricket presenter and commentator, sharing his vast knowledge and experience. Akram’s insights and analysis are highly valued, making him a prominent figure in the cricketing world.

Wasim Akram declines PCB CEO offer

In a recent development, Akram has turned down an offer from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take on a key role within the organization. The PCB had approached Akram to become either the CEO or the personal advisor to the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. The proposal was seen as an opportunity to leverage Akram’s expertise to improve Pakistan cricket.

Reason behind Akram’s denial

Despite the prestigious offer, Akram declined due to personal commitments. Accepting the role would have required him to permanently relocate to Lahore. Currently residing in Karachi, Akram has regular travel commitments to Australia due to family obligations. These logistical challenges led to his decision to refuse the offer. Nevertheless, Akram has assured the PCB of his continued support and assistance in any capacity to help advance Pakistan cricket.

Waqar Younis steps in

Following Akram’s refusal, the PCB turned to his former teammate Waqar Younis, who has reportedly accepted the offer. Younis, who also frequently travels to Australia for family reasons, has agreed to relocate to Lahore. He met with Naqvi on Monday to discuss various matters, although an official announcement regarding his appointment has yet to be made.

PCB’s ongoing turmoil

The PCB has been facing considerable challenges, with Naqvi, who also serves as the Federal Minister of Interior, often criticized for allegedly not dedicating enough time to cricket affairs. By seeking a CEO or personal advisor, Naqvi aims to address this criticism and improve the board’s efficiency. The appointment of a new CEO or advisor is seen as a crucial step in stabilizing the PCB and enhancing its operations amidst ongoing scrutiny.
