Veteran Australian opener David Warner provided a light-hearted moment during the T20 World Cup 2024 clash against Oman at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Thursday. After being dismissed, Warner unintentionally walked towards Oman’s dressing room instead of Australia’s, creating a memorable comedy of errors.

The incident occurred in the 19th over when Warner, who scored 56 off 61 deliveries, was dismissed by Kaleemullah. Following his dismissal, Warner began his walk back to the pavilion. However, in a comical mix-up, he started heading towards Oman’s dressing room. Realizing his mistake after looking back, Warner corrected his direction and headed to the Australian dressing room. The moment was captured and shared by ICC’s official Instagram handle, showing the veteran cricketer climbing the stairs to Oman’s dressing room before being pointed to the correct direction.

Warner’s vital contribution for Australia

Despite the humorous incident, Warner played a crucial role in Australia’s innings. On a difficult wicket to bat Warner steadied the Australian innings after early setbacks. Opening with Travis Head, Warner anchored the innings and forged a significant partnership with Marcus Stoinis. After Australia was reduced to 50/3, Warner and Stoinis stitched together a 100-run stand for the fifth wicket, taking the score past 150. Warner’s innings included six fours and a six, showcasing his experience and skill.

Marcus Stoinis’ all-round performance

Stoinis complemented Warner’s efforts with a quickfire half-century, scoring 67 off 36 deliveries. His aggressive batting ensured that Australia posted a competitive total of 164/5. Stoinis’ performance wasn’t just limited to his batting; he also shone with the ball, picking up three crucial wickets and playing a key role in restricting Oman to 125/9. This all-round performance earned him the Man of the Match award.

Australia’s bowling dominance

Australia’s bowlers delivered a strong performance, with contributions from Stoinis, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Ellis. Starc and Ellis each took two wickets, effectively dismantling Oman’s batting lineup. The disciplined bowling attack ensured that Oman fell short of the target by 39 runs, handing Australia a comfortable victory.
