Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was ordered to pay his ex-wife Hasin Jahan Rs 1.30 lakh in alimony on Monday by a court in Kolkata.

The personal alimony for Hasin Jahan will be 50,000 rupees, and the remaining 80,000 rupees will be used to support their daughter, who is living with her. Hasin Jahan filed a lawsuit in court in 2018 for Rs 10 lakh in monthly alimony from Hasan, with Rs 7,00,000 going toward her own alimony and the remaining Rs 3,00,000 going toward paying for their daughter’s upkeep.

Mriganka Mistry, her attorney, told the court that the Indian pacer’s income tax returns for the fiscal year 2020-1 showed that he made more than Rs 7 crore that year, so the demand for Rs 10 lakhs in alimony per month was not unreasonable.

Shami’s attorney, Selim Rahman, argued, however, that the demand for such a high alimony amount was unjustified because Hasin Jahan was earning a steady income as a professional fashion model.

The lower court finally decided on Monday to set the monthly alimony amount at Rs 1.30 lakh after hearing both sides. Although Hasin Jahan expressed gratitude for the court’s directive, she claimed that if the monthly alimony amount had been higher, she would have felt relieved. The Indian pacer did not respond to this charge until the report was filed.

Hasin Jahan made a veiled attack on Shami, who was not in the Indian squad, when she posted a picture of Hardik Pandya, who led India to victory against Pakistan at the Asia Cup, on social media in September of last year. Pandya scored a six to lead India to victory.

“Congratulations, a victory to remember. We are grateful to our Tigers for helping the nation win. This was necessary; “Instead of criminals and womanizers, the country’s reputation and honour are protected by honest patriots,” she wrote at the time. Fans were furious about the post, and many of them criticised Hasin Jahan for her veiled attack on Shami.
