New Zealand Tour of England 2022, New Zealand vs England Match Details, Team News, Pitch Report, and the Match Prediction

Jun 10, 2022

England vs New Zealand resumes for the second test to be played at Trent Bridge and we could not be more excited. In a week where a tremendous amount of cricket is scheduled to be played (most of it in a short format), the England vs New Zealand Test Match could be the most exciting.

The first Test swung both ways as the teams recovered from a batting collapse in the first inning and found themselves in winning positions. Some courageous cricket from England and the brilliance of Joe Root swung the match towards England but there was not much in it.

The best cricket betting sites in the world like Betway, Parimatch, and Bet365 are all picking England as the slight favourite to win this match. We think this match is a tremendous opportunity for smart bettors to pick up some wins because the game is once again going to swing wildly.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for England vs New Zealand 2nd Test 2022. The match is going to be played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, starting on the 10th of June 2022.

ENG VS NZ TEAM PREVIEWS

ENGLAND

England has announced an unchanged eleven for the second test match as Jack Leach recovers and finds his way back into the playing eleven. There were a lot of positives to take for England from the previous match but as a bettor, you always have to look a bit deeper into the details.

The bowling attack for England looks fantastic. James Anderson and Stuart Broad are still the best new-ball pair in England so it is great to see them play together irrespective of their age. Matthew Potts ended up with six wickets in this first Test and showed just how dangerous he can be in English conditions as well.

With Ben Stokes as the fallback all-rounder and Jack Leach as the spinner, there could be a concern that England is one bowler short with this lineup. We saw how Daryll Mitchell and Tom Blundell got set and made England pay in the second inning of the first test.

England could struggle if the conditions are a bit batter-friendly or if New Zealand’s batters spend enough time at the crease.

The batting is all about Joe Root, who is easily the best Test batsman in the world right now. Root stroked his 27th century as he led England to what was quite a daunting target. It was only the brilliance of Joe Root that made it look like a walk in the park during the end.

Take him out of this lineup, though, and the rest start to look a bit dicey. Zak Crawley and Jonny Bairstow seemed out of sorts, Alex Lees is just getting started at the international level, and Ollie Pope is going to be under pressure to get some runs.

Even Ben Stokes had a tremendous amount of luck going his way in the first match. As bettors, we would be quite wary of betting on this England batting lineup.

NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand had two or three terrific opportunities to close out the Test match and complete a remarkable fightback but that did not happen. We think New Zealand made a couple of mistakes with its team selection and they will end up correcting that this time around.

Colin de Grandhomme has been out injured and is likely to be replaced by Henry Nicholls. That will increase the bowling load on Daryll Mitchell but there is no way you can leave him out after his brilliant batting in the first test.

We also think New Zealand could go into this match without a spinner. Neil Wagner surely has to make a comeback into the eleven in place of Ajaz Patel.

From a bettor’s point of view, keep in mind that New Zealand came within an inch of winning the previous match (If only de Grandhomme would not have overstepped) and the loss in the previous match was its first in five matches against England.

They have a superb bowling attack led by Kyle Jaimeson, Tim Southee, and Trent Boult. We think they could add a fourth seamer for this match and strengthen that even further.

The batting was not up to the mark in the previous match but don’t count out the likes of Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, and Tom Latham just yet.

MATCH DETAILS:

Match: England vs New Zealand, 2nd Test

ENGLAND VS NEW ZEALAND PITCH REPORT

The pitch at Trent Bridge is a balanced track. The bowlers will get movement with the new ball and the batters will have to be patient early in their innings. We might see the bowlers continue to trouble the batters while bowling on this surface.

ENGLAND VS NEW ZEALAND WEATHER FORECAST

The temperature in Nottingham on the opening day of the Test is expected to range between 12 and 22 degrees Celsius. It will stay dry throughout the next five days and we expect a full game to be played.

ENGLAND VS NEW ZEALAND IS PROBABLE XI

ENGLAND

The pacers set things up for them in the first Test as they bowled brilliantly and never allowed the New Zealand batters to get going. Root was the standout performer for them with the bat and will hope for other batters to chip in with telling contributions.

PROBABLE XI

Zak Crawley, Alex Lees, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (c), Ben Foakes (wk), Matty Potts, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Jack Leach

NEW ZEALAND

The batters struggled to bar Daryl Mitchell, who scored a brilliant ton in the second innings. He was well supported by Tom Blundell but their other batters need to step up in the upcoming Test. They will hope to put up a much-improved performance in the second Test to level the series.

PROBABLE XI

Tom Latham, Will Young, Kane Williamson (c), Devon Conway, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Blundell (wk), Cam Fletcher, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, Ajaz Patel, Trent Boult

TOP PICKS – BATTERS

JOE ROOT:

He won the Player of the Match award in the first Test as he made 115 runs off 170 deliveries in the second innings to take England home. He is one of the most consistent batters for the English team in the longest format in the last couple of years and would be looking to play with the same intent in this game.

DEVON CONWAY:

He failed to repeat in the first Test what he did in his debut game against this same opposition last year. Conway has played 8 Test matches and has made 3 centuries. He would be a key player in New Zealand’s middle-order for this match.

TOP PICKS – ALL-ROUNDERS

BEN STOKES:

He had a great debut as the captain of the English team in the last game. With the bat, he scored a half-century in the second innings and added 90 runs for the 5th wicket along with Root. He even managed to pick a wicket in the first innings and would be hoping to deliver the same all-around performance in this game.

DARYL MITCHELL:

He was the standout performer for New Zealand with the bat in the first game. He made 108 runs off 203 deliveries in the second innings and had a partnership of 195 runs along with Tom Blundell.

TOP PICKS – BOWLERS

JAMES ANDERSON:

He picked 4 wickets in the first innings including the wickets of both the Kiwi openers. He would be a key player for England in this game as well as the pitch is expected to provide a decent amount of support to the pacers in the initial part of the match.

TIM SOUTHEE:

He was the best performer for New Zealand in the first innings as he dismissed four English batters. Southee has picked 342 wickets in 86 Test matches and would be looking to complete the 350-wickets mark.

TOP PICKS – WICKETKEEPER

TOM BLUNDELL:

He played a key role for New Zealand in the second innings as he made 96 runs off 198 balls. His innings helped New Zealand post a challenging total for England to chase. The wicketkeeper batter did miss his 3rd century in this format and would be looking to play a significant role in this game as well.

ENGLAND VS NEW ZEALAND MATCH PREDICTION

Both England and New Zealand came out hard in the first Test and the hosts managed to get an early lead in the series after they won the game by five wickets. The Kiwis need to be at their absolute best to level the series.

England has a good balance to their side and expects them to come out on top in the second Test.

Prediction: England to win this encounter.
