Match: Netherlands vs New Zealand, 1st T20I, New Zealand tour of Netherlands, 2022

Venue: Sportpark Westvliet, The Hague

New Zealand is all set to tour the Netherlands for a two-match T20I series. The first game will be played on August 4, with both games scheduled to take place at the Sportpark Westvliet in The Hague.

The Netherlands was recently featured in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier B 2022. They were unbeaten until the final when they lost to Zimbabwe but qualifying for the final sealed a berth in the T20 World Cup 2022. They will now want to be at their best when they face the Kiwis at home.

Scott Edwards will be leading the Dutch side in the T20I series against New Zealand. The likes of Max O’Dowd, Logan van Beek, and Tom Cooper will play a key role for the side and will be eager to put up a solid performance in front of their home crowd.

New Zealand, meanwhile, faced Scotland in a limited-overs series. They proved to be too strong for the Scottish side as they whitewashed their opponents in a two-match T20I series and then won the lone ODI. The Black Caps will be riding on confidence and will look to keep performing similarly against the Netherlands.

Mitchell Santner has been handed the responsibility of leading the New Zealand side on this tour. The likes of Martin Guptill, and Mark Chapman have been in sensational form and will look to keep contributing to the upcoming T20I series. They start as favorites and will look to start the series on a winning note.

NETHERLANDS

The Netherlands has qualified for the T20I world cup recently to be played in Australia later this year. They will be looking to display a good showing against much stronger opposition in the form of New Zealand. In stark contrast to the visitors, the Dutch national team is yet to open its account in a bilateral series this year. Their chances of doing so against a rampaging New Zealand team appear to be bleak as well. The Netherlands captain Scott Edwards is also a key player for the side. He was able to gather some momentum at the end of the last Netherlands series with the bat. He scored 96 runs from 3 matches and to supplement this he also did a fair job behind the stumps.

One of the more dependable top-order batsmen for the Netherlands is Max O’Dowd. This impressive batter from the Netherlands has scored 111 runs in his last 3 games. He will be focused to deliver another great performance for his team in this game. Bas de Leede is the leading wicket-taker for the Netherlands in their recently concluded series. He picked up 5 scalps in the 6 games and he backed it up with a good batting performance that saw him score 60 runs in the middle order. Logan Van Beek has improved a great deal in recent games. He has succeeded in picking up 4 wickets from the last 3 games. This tally can rise with this match.

NEW ZEALAND

Kiwis have won 9 matches in a row now as they head to the Netherlands for the T20I series opener. They will be involved in a two-match series that will begin on Thursday, the 4th of August before they embark on a tour of the West Indies. The kiwi team has been ruthless in demolishing the weaker teams this year as they provided a whitewash to Scotland and Ireland. The blackcaps will be looking to extend their winning record this year in this series. Mark Chapman is a Hong Kong-born batter who bats at the top of the order for New Zealand. He has been in terrific nick in recent matches. In the second match of the series against Scotland, he smashed 83 runs. This was followed by an unbeaten match-winning century in the one-off one-day international. The kiwi southpaw will be keen to cement his place in the New Zealand squad by hitting another solid performance in this game.

A bowler that is consistently doing well for New Zealand in recent matches is Lockie Ferguson. He has succeeded in picking up 11 wickets in his last 6 matches. This includes a backbreaking performance against the Ireland cricket team in the first T20I. This New Zealand fast bowler can be a handful at the best of times. He will be tough to handle for the inexperienced Netherlands side. Dane Cleaver will be keeping the wickets for New Zealand and he will be keen to deliver a strong performance in this game that will develop a good batting form for him together with his keeping abilities.

Martin Guptill does not need an introduction and he scored 87 runs in the last couple of matches he has played. This consistent performance will keep him motivated for this encounter. Fin Allen is another useful addition to the batting line-up. He has managed to score 551 runs with a strike rate of 111.08 in his last twenty-five T20I games. Jimmy Neesham was not at his best in some of the recently played matches. However, he has tremendous potential and if this is his day, he may end up picking critical wickets to add to his batting contribution. Michael Bracewell has scored 61 runs and picked up 4 wickets in the last series. He will also be keen to make a mark in this series. The spinner Ish Sodhi was the leading wicket-taker in the last couple of games for New Zealand. He took 5 wickets with good control over the run rate making him a crucial player for the team.
