PSL Match 8 – Karachi Kings vs Lahore Qalandars Review

Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars went head-to-head against each other in Match 8 of the Pakistan Super League season 8 at the National Bank Cricket Arena, Karachi on Sunday, February 19. Karachi Kings proved to be too much for Lahore Qalandars to handle as they won the match by 67 runs.

James Vince was the leading run scorer for Kings as he scored 46 off 36 balls smashing three fours and two sixes in his innings. Apart from him, Matthew Wade made a vital contribution of 36 off 24 balls with the help of four fours and a six. Captain Imad Wasim also played a crucial knock of 35* off 19 deliveries to help his side post a total of 185/5 in their allotted 20 overs after being put in to bat first.

From Lahore Qalandars, Shaheen Afridi, Zaman Khan, Haris Rauf and Liam Dawson picked up one wicket each. 

In reply, Lahore Qalandars lost their way in the chase after getting a good start by their openers Fakhar Zaman and Mirza Baig as the duo added 40 runs for the first wicket in 4.2 overs. Mirza Baig was further involved in a 41-run stand for the third wicket with Kamran Ghulam.

However, after the end of their partnership, no other batter from Qalandars could play a longer innings to take his team closer to the target.

As a result, they were bundled out for just 118 in 17.3 overs handing a win to Karachi Kings by 67 runs. Mirza Baig was the top scorer for Qalandars as he scored 45 off 39 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes. For Kings, Akif Javed was the pick of the bowlers who scalped four wickets while giving away 28 runs in 3.3 overs.

Apart from him, Aamer Yamin and Ben Cutting picked up two wickets each while Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim picked up one wicket each.

What’s next for both the teams?

It was Karachi’s first win of the tournament in four matches. They have climbed to the second position on the points table due to their positive net run rate of +0.499. On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars have slipped to the bottom (sixth position) following their loss by a huge margin. Qalandars will next face Quetta Gladiators on Tuesday, February 21 at the National Bank Cricket Arena, Karachi.

On the other hand, Karachi Kings will face Multan Sultans at the same venue on Wednesday, February 22.
