5. Virat Kohli- 12809 runs
The swashbuckling right-hander has got back his A-game after a short sabbatical from the sport last year. Kohli has been producing some sensational innings early on in 2023 already and is a strong contender to find a place in the list of highest run getters in the calendar year considering his current form. The batter in 271 matches and 262 innings, has amassed 12809 runs which makes him the fifth in the list of most runs scored in the OD format.
4. Sanath Jayasuriya – 13430 runs
During his stint with the national side, Sri Lanka’s Jayasuriya was an instrumental player with the bat. The southpaw amassed 13430 runs between 1989 and 2011 before calling time on his international career with the Lankan Lions.
3. Ricky Ponting – 13704 runs
Former Australia World Cup winning skipper Ricky Ponting served as a fine example for young cricketers in terms of both leadership and technical cricketing abilities. With the bat, Ponting was dominant and registered massive runs for the Aussies. In the ODI’s particular, the former skipper etched his name in the history books as he amassed 13704 runs in 375 games.
2. Kumar Sangakkara – 14234 runs
Like Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara also retired a legend of the sport having contributed lots for his national side. Known for easing into strokes with the elegance, the batter always exuded confidence while out in the middle. In his 380 innings, the former wicket-keeper batter got 14234 runs to his name making him the second highest on the list of run getters in the ODI format.
1. Sachin Tendulkar – 18426 runs
The all-time great of the sport- Sachin Tendulkar make it to the top of the list of run getters in the ODIs by a country mile. A pioneer of sublime hitting, Tendulkar etched his name in history for creating numerous records. It took just 452 innings for the batter to score a mammoth 18426 runs during his stint with his national side during 1989-2012.
