Even after playing some brilliant cricket throughout the season, Multan Sultans failed to clinch the title in the seventh season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). They fell short by 42 runs in the finals against Lahore Qalandars and with that, the dream of lifting back-to-back titles was crushed. However, with a vengeance on their mind, the team management has once again built a strong squad that can challenge for the title.

However, for that, the team would hope that they don’t choke again as it happened in the 2022 finals. The team combination is also a thing that the skipper Mohammad Rizwan needs to think about as it has bothered them at times in the previous season. Overall, how do their team look like ahead of the eighth edition? Let’s decode –

Strength

Batting is by far their main strength in the upcoming season. Skipper Mohammad Rizwan is in terrific form and so is Usman Khan, who smashed 212 runs from seven matches in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. The same can be said for David Miller, who smashed a terrific half-century in the first ODI against England.

Other batters like Tim David, Shan Masood and Rilee Rossouw too can create a massive impact and thus, batting definitely is their biggest strength going forward.

Weakness

Even though they have a strong playing XI, back-ups aren’t good enough. The team has a lot of young talents and they are not tested as of now. Thus, if a senior cricketer gets injured, the team can face a lot of problems in coping with that. Their bowling too looks a bit pale but that can change if Joshua Little lives to his potential.

Opportunity

The Sultans have the opportunity to become the second team to win the PSL titles on two different occasions. They have a good squad in order to achieve that and the Mohammad Rizwan-led side will definitely eye for that.

Threats

Despite being one of the contenders to win the championship, Multan Sultan has a lot of undercooked players who aren’t T20 specialists or players who currently are not in a good form. The form of Khusdil Shah, Akeal Hossain and Adil Rashid is a massive concern and that is what the team needs to work on in order to get their hands on the trophy.
