Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably one of the greatest players of all time. The 38-year-old forward has been one of the best in the generation. The Portuguese captain has won every possible trophy in his iconic football career except for the FIFA World Cup and that is one thing that he might not add to his trophy cabinet. He has been out of the European footballing circuit for over a year now. CR7 now plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi League and in 2023 became the highest goal scorer as well.

Ronaldo has questioned the Ballon d’Or and FIFA’s The Best award. In an interview with one of Portugal’s sports newspapers, Ronaldo stated that the awards are losing credibility. The comments come after his arch-football rival Argentina’s Lionel Messi won both honours for the 2022/23 season. LM10 was one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or in the 2022/23 season following his first FIFA World Cup victory in Qatar.

Ronaldo told Record, that he did not watch the awards since he is used to ‘how the organisations work’. The forward’s comments came following Dubai’s Globe Soccer awards, where he received several prizes, including top goal scorer of the year.

I think that, in a way these awards are losing: Cristiano Ronaldo

Speaking to Record, Ronaldo said, “I think that, in a way these awards are losing credibility. We have to analyse the entire season. It’s not to say that Messi didn’t deserve it, or Haaland or even Mbappe, or I simply no longer believe in these awards and it’s not because I won at the globe soccer but these are facts, the numbers are there and the numbers don’t deceive.”

“They can’t take this trophy away from me because it’s a reality, So it makes me even happier because the numbers are facts. If you go back and see what happened at Manchester United and the national team, people actually considered me lost… But the truth is that I focused and had a great period at Al Nassr, that’s why I scored 54 goals.”
