David Alaba is likely to be out of action for several months due to his injury against Villarreal. The star defender injured his knee and looked in severe pain during his side’s 4-1 win. The Austrian attempted to challenge Gerard Moreno in claiming the ball and injured his cruciate ligament in the process. Alaba is the third player to sustain a cruciate ligament injury in the ongoing league.

The defender Eder Militao and the goalkeeper Thibaut Courtious had suffered the same earlier this tournament. Along with it, Real Madrid has endured the loss of another player, Eduardo Camavinga. The defender has not played the last few games due to the knee ligament rupture he sustained earlier this season. So many injuries have left Real Madrid wondering about their campaign.

The former champions are left with only two central defenders in their lineup who are fit – Nacho Fernandez and Antonio Rudiger. Aurelien Tchoumaneni might be preferred in the upcoming games, as he returned to the side from injury. Although he played as a substitute against Villarreal, coach Carlo Ancelotti might prefer him in the defence, which has been threatened currently with so many injuries.

“After the tests carried out on our player David Alaba, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” the statement of Real Madrid revealed about the injury of Alaba. Coach Ancelotti expressed his concerns over the increasing injury of the players from his side. They are without their star forward Vinicius Jr who sustained a hamstring injury Earlier this season.

“It’s a shame, it’s very sad, and I’ve never had three cruciate ligaments (problems) in four months. We have carried that and done more than what people thought,” said Ancelotti to the reporters. Rodrygo Goes, Jude Bellingham and Brahim Diaz have chipped in with good contributions as replacements for the Brazilian. In fact, they were the goal scorers against Villarreal along with Luca Modric. Real Madrid will have some tough times in the upcoming days.
