The hotly debated Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood was signed on a loan by Getafe boss Jose Bordalas.
One of United’s top players to rise through the ranks was Greenwood, 21. He had an excellent beginning within the first team, however, it was halted short after he was detained in January 2022 on suspicion of trying to rape someone and using forceful behaviour.
The allegations were ultimately dismissed, but the player was fired by the club. The fact that Greenwood has not played for United after then and currently appears to have no prospect of playing within English club football should be enough.
On Friday (September 1), the transfer deadline, Getafe seized on the chance to sign the gifted attacker. Their management has since provided an explanation for the decision to sign Greenwood (as reported by GOAL), claiming that he is now a “free man” and entitled to start over. He said, “It is a very delicate situation to trivialise this issue. Every knows what happened and the appropriate measures were taken, obviously, we can only talk about football.”
He added, “Regarding the other issues, I believe that the people and the relevant authorities did what they had to do and everyone knows how it ended with a non-conviction sentence. Therefore, he is a free person, a footballer of a very high level and who arrives at Getafe with enormous enthusiasm and that we are obviously going to help him so that he recovers back to his best level.”
Mason Greenwood’s Manchester United career got off to a flying start with 35 goals as well as 12 assists across 129 games in all competitions. The majority of his contributions to goals occurred when he was nevertheless a teenager, indicating a bright future.
The pacy winger may still have a promising future, but it is expected to take place outside of the club where his career initially gained prominence. Greenwood’s manager at Getafe, Bordalas, is aware of his potential because he said in the previously mentioned conversation that the player may have a future with the team.
