The Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reacted to the punishment Erling Haaland has received for his I’ll comments against referee Simon Hooper in the ongoing Champions League. Klopp has said that he is least interested in the punishment of Erling over his comments on Hooper. Haaland was upset over Hopper for his decision against Tottenham Hotspur, which denied Manchester City the chance to win the match.
Haaland managed to maintain his balance after a foul towards the halfway line. He did manage to maintain Jack Grealish through the line of the goal in the required time. Going against the advantage of play, Hooper gave the decision against Haaland and the defending champions. The decision had an impact on the eventual 3-3 result of the game. Erling was not happy with the decision of Hooper.
To express his disappointment over the decision, the Norwegian Footballer took to X and reacted to the decision, which was not in good taste. In a past that referred to the decision of Hooper in the match, Erling retweeted with the caption “Wtf”. In a similar way when Virgil van Dijk reacted in August for an inappropriate sendoff, he had received a ban for a game with a fine of 1 lakh Euros.
Klopp was asked about his opinion on the same. To it, he replied saying “I don’t know. In most of the years the thing Virgil said no one would have recognized. [He said] ‘F****** joke’ wasn’t it? I have no idea exactly what Haaland said, I didn’t follow it.” Klopp claimed that he had no idea what happened with Erling and did not want to know it either.
“It is like it is. To be honest, I didn’t think for a second about it, when I heard about it, it wasn’t, ‘Oh we get it, they don’t.’ As long as you are not emotionally involved, it is much easier to accept it, in the heat of the moment it is more difficult. They would have probably thought about it and I have no opinion on the outcome,” added Klopp.
On the 6th of December in the midweek on Wednesday, Manchester City will face Aston Villa.
Liverpool defender ruled out for months following knee injury
Joel Matip is set to be out of action for several weeks following his unfortunate injury on the 3rd of December. During the game against Fulham, the Liverpool defender sustained a knee ligament injury. Though Liverpool won the game 4-3, the injury damaged the confidence of Matip and Liverpool. The footballer from Cameroon was ruled out of the game in the 69th minute and replaced with Ibrahima Kanate.
Under Jurgen Klopp, Matip was one of the key assets. In nine matches in the Premier League and two in the Europa League matches, Matip represented Liverpool. Speaking about his injury, Klopp said “When the doctor comes in and says: ‘It doesn’t look great’… but we have to wait for the scans and the scan isn’t here yet. You can imagine it doesn’t look great. It is never good news [when a doctor says that immediately].”
In their next match, Liverpool would be up against Sheffield United. There is a five-point margin of gap between Liverpool and Arsenal, the table toppers. In the absence of Matip, the roles are likely to be changed for the match against Sheffield United, which is important for Liverpool. They are likely to play either Konate or Joe Gomez to partner van Dijk in the absence of Matip in the central defensive role.
