Liverpool have been in brilliant form in the ongoing English Premier League (EPL). The Reds are at the top of the table with 45 points. Jurgen Klopp’s side have played a sensational brand of football so far in the league. But they have been struck with a curse as their star forward Mohamed Salah has been affected with an injury as he was substituted in Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations match against Ghana due to an apparent hamstring injury.
Salah went down and was treated before being replaced in extra time in the first half after informing Egypt’s medical team that he couldn’t continue. The Egypt captain was holding the back of his left thigh. This will be a big blow for the nation and the club as he is the joint-highest goal scorer in the ongoing EPL having 14 goals to his name.
The Reds are presently two points ahead of champions Manchester City in the Premier League title battle. Salah, who has less than 18 months left on his current deal, has been pivotal in Liverpool’s impressive run of form, which has them competing in four tournaments this season. The attacker has 27 goals and 27 assists in 27 outings across all competitions for the Reds. The fans will be hoping the 31-year-old’s injury isn’t serious.
We don’t know yet what the problem is: Rui Victoria
Egypt’s coach Rui Vitoria “We don’t know yet what the problem is. I hope it’s not a big problem. It was difficult timing for us because, in the second half, we could only make two substitutions. I think it’s not dangerous but let’s see.”
“The players were upset after conceding at the end of the first half…but it’s football, we changed the mindset in the second half, we went for the game with positive energy. Not because of Salah, but because the result was not good. The reaction and commitment of the team were good, but Salah is an amazing player and we cannot forget that.”
