Manchester City’s star footballer Erling Haaland is unquestionably one of the world’s most intriguing young football players right now. Football fans and commentators alike have been in awe of his spectacular form recently. In a 3-0 victory over West Ham United on Wednesday, he broke the record for the most goals scored in a Premier League season, returning his team to the top of the standings.

The Norwegian forward surpassed Alan Shearer and Andy Cole, who shared the record with 34 goals each. Haaland scored a chip goal against West Ham in the 70th minute to bring his total number of goals for City across all competitions to 51. The feat is all the more amazing considering that Shearer and Cole did it in a 42-game Premier League season with 22 clubs while Haaland just had 38 games available to him but still managed to win the award with games to spare.

The Premier League saw such devastation when Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah went on a scoring spree, scoring 32 goals in his first season with the Reds. With his goal in a 4-1 Manchester City victory over Arsenal on April 27, Haaland, in comparison, took 29 games to match that mark.

Talking about Liverpool, they also had a match on Wednesday where they defeated Fulham 1-0 at Anfield in the Premier League thanks to a penalty kick from Salah, maintaining the Reds’ tenuous chances of making it to the Champions League next season.

With two fewer games played, Manchester United, who are in fourth place with 59 points, is only four points behind Liverpool after the victory. When Carlos Vinicius forced Liverpool custodian Alisson Becker into a save, Fulham had a chance to take the lead right away. Issa Diop soon witnessed Fulham fall down in the 39th minute. Darwin Nunez prodded the ball away and the defender hacked him down, resulting in an instant penalty kick being given to Liverpool by the referee.
