Chelsea have been going through one of their worst run of form currently. Lingering at 11th in Premier League, the West London club is brimming with players none of whom could seem to perform at the high level that was expected of him.
Chelsea’s situation is going to get even poorer as Real Madrid come to visit them for the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal tie. In the first league the now Frank Lampard-coached team were humbled by 2-0 scoreline and could not find any answer to Real Madrid’s quality.
Chelsea’s woes are going to be even furthered by the Spanish team as they look to sign 4 of Chelsea’s starters in the coming transfer season. Real Madrid have already poached a few of Chelsea’s players, Thibaut Courtois and Antonio Rudiger being the successful ones while Eden Hazard not.
Now, Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez is looking to get 4 of Chelsea’s players to further bolster the 14-time Champions League winners. Reece James, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic are all on Perez’s radar for the upcoming transfer season.
OF all these players Mount’s situation seems to be most troubling for Chelsea as the 24-year-old doesn’t seem keen on signing a new contract for the West London club. Chelsea are reluctant to make him one of the top earners in the team.
Furthermore, Kovacic is also not believed to be in talks with the club for a contract extension. Additionally, Reece James who is considered one of the best in his position is expected to fetch a price tag in excess of $100 million in the current market.
Chelsea who forked out more than $600 million in the last transfer season have a bloated squad and would look to clear up some of the deadwood in the team. Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech would be the first to go as he has failed to live up to the hype. Christian Pulisic who was signed from Borussia Dortmund is another player looking to move to greener pastures in the summer transfer window.
