Recently, Piers Morgan stated that Erling Haaland had been the finest player and ought to have accepted the Ballon d’Or in Paris, contending that Lionel Messi was not worthy of it this year.

The reporter went on to say that Messi ought to have two fewer Ballon d’Or victories while Cristiano Ronaldo ought to have two more. He exclaimed that X was “rigged” and went on a tirade.

He said, “Messi preposterously winning the Ballon d’Or this year is yet more proof that the whole ‘Golden Ball’ system is rigged. He should have won 2 fewer, @Cristiano should have won 2 more, and Haaland should have won this year. End.”

Erling Haaland has also been favoured by several players and commentators ahead of Lionel Messi for this year’s Ballon d’Or. Many think that the voters disregarded the Norwegian’s treble-winning season at Manchester City, while others believe the 2022 FIFA World Cup tainted the entire narrative.

In 2019, Cristiano Ronaldo told Piers Morgan that to finish ahead of Lionel Messi, he had to win up to eight Ballon d’Ors. Though he appreciated the Argentine’s work, he felt he deserved the coveted medal.

Cristiano Ronaldo said, “Messi’s in the history of football. But I think I have to have six or seven or eight [Ballon d’Ors] to be above him. I’d love it, I think I deserve it.”

The Al Nassr superstar claimed that although he never pursues records, they always seem to find him. He continued, “I don’t follow the records, the records follow me. I’m addicted to success, and I don’t think it’s something bad, I think it’s good. It motivates me. If you’re not motivated, it’s better to stop.”

Regarding his friendship alongside Lionel Messi, Ronaldo said that the two had been pushing each other past their limits but were not friends.

He concluded by saying, “My relationship with him is, we are not friends, but we have shared this stage for 15 years. I know that he has pushed me to be a better player and I have pushed him to be a better player as well.”
