There was a delayed start for the match between Argentina and Brazil in the ongoing Football World Cup 2026 qualifiers. It all started during the national anthem between the two teams, where the fans of the two teams were involved in a fight. It got violent between the fans and led to chaos all around. Later on, even some of the players like Emiliano Martinez got involved in it.
It delayed the start of the match. The security personnel in the stadium could not control it. Hence, police were called to handle the situation. As the police arrived, some of the fans entered the arena after being seriously involved in the fight. The police arrested some of the members responsible for it. One of the arrested ones was seriously injured. The match resumed later after the police ensured the required safety for the start.
In a packed house, Brazil was set to take on Argentina in a difficult situation. For the first time in their history, the five-time world champions lost back-to-back matches in the Football World Cup qualifiers. Brazil had a good start to their campaign, as they defeated Bolivia 5-1 and Peru 2-1 in their first two matches of the tournament respectively.
Brazil creates unwanted history in World Cup Qualifiers
In their third match, the 2002 World champions drew 1-1 with Venezuela. In the last three matches, Brazil have lost all three matches. For the first time in their history, Brazil lost two consecutive matches. Against Uruguay, Brazil lost 0-2 and suffered their first loss of the tournament. The former world champions backed it up with a 1-2 loss against Colombia.
In the arch-rivalry match against Argentina, Brazil gave a good fight but ended up losing by a margin of 0-1. Otamendi’s goal in the 63rd minute of the game rattled the confidence of Brazilian players. Argentina held on to the lead and won the match to continue their good run in the tournament. It leaves Brazil with a lot to think about their campaign in the tournament.
