Bokaro Kabaddi Sangh awards 50,000 INR to star player Sagar Kumar for Junior World Kabaddi Championship performance

Sagar Kumar received recognition from the Bokaro Kabaddi Sangh for his Junior World Kabaddi Championship performance. Gopal Thakur, the secretary general of the Bokaro Kabaddi Union, and others presented Sagar with a check for 50,000 rupees during the ceremony.

Sagar has proudly represented Bokaro by taking home the Gold Medal in India in the most recent Kabaddi match played in Urmia, Iran. Sagar won while playing as an all-arounder for the Indian Junior Kabaddi team.

Sagar claimed during the awards ceremony that he was never truly delighted since words cannot express the thrill of winning the gold medal for his nation. The Bokaro Kabaddi Sangh’s general secretary, Gopal Thakur, pleaded with the government to support and reward athletes as part of its sports programme.

In the pre-2022 Pro Kabaddi match, Sagar Kumar, 19, debuted and took home the Game Changer Award from the Patna Pirates team. At the same time, Sagar won the gold medal at the Rohtak 2020 National Kabaddi Tournament.

Sagar began training in 2015 in Sector 8 Field, where he learned how to play Kabaddi from his father. Sagar continued to practise and play the game there throughout the next year. Former Kabaddi player Vipin Singh is Sagar’s father. His mother, Kanchan Devi, works as a homemaker in the meantime. Saurabh Kumar, Sagar’s older brother, has also played Kabaddi.

Notably, the Junior World Kabaddi Championship took place in Urmia, Iran, from February 26 to March 5, 2019. In the championship match, India defeated Iran 41–33. The Junior World Kabaddi Championship featured players from 16 nations. which saw the Indian Kabaddi team win the world championship.

In other relevant news for Junior Kabaddi players, The Sports Authority of India (SAI) had revoked the participation of two young kabaddi players due to their “injuries.” Still, the Delhi High Court on Thursday (February 23) approved their participation in the Junior World Championship (Boys), which will begin on February 26 in Iran.
