After three years of the global Pandemic, sports have been normalized around the world without any restrictions. However, some games like Kabaddi are still waiting to resume on a major level. The last international Kabaddi tournament was organized just before the Pandemic in November 2019. Although, the good news is here for all Kabaddi enthusiasts as the International Kabaddi is set to resume as some big Kabaddi tournament is scheduled this year.
The international calendar will resume on February 26 when the 2nd Junior World Kabaddi Championship Boy’s (Under 20) opening game will take place. The event will be organized in the capital city of Iran as the new powerhouse of the games is set to defend its title. Notably, the 1st Junior World Kabaddi Championship was also held at Kish Island, Iran in November 2019.
In the absence of India in the first edition of the tournament Iran won the gold medal while Kenya stood up as runners-up. Notably, India didn’t participate in the first edition due to their focus on Pro Kabaddi League and selections for South Asian Games 2019. However, it gave Iran a chance to establish their junior Kabaddi and select some players for the senior team. PKL start, Mohammadreza Shadlu Chiyaneh, Amirhossein Bastami, Reza Mirbagheri, and Haiderali Ekrami from Iran are some of the examples
Iran, India, Kenya, Iraq, Uganda, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Srilanka, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Thailand, Nepal, Turkmenistan & Georgia will participate in the upcoming second edition.
Teams are gearing up for the tournament
All the 15 participating nations are gearing up for the event as it is around the corner. Meanwhile, Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, and Thailand have announced their squad for the tournament. However, India is supposed to announce its squad after the completion of the fifth Khelo India Youth Games. Although, a camp was organized by the authority to select the squad. A pool of 32 Junior Boys players took part in this camp which was held from 23 January to 12 February at SAI Center, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
