PKL 2023: Star Sports India embroiled in huge controversy ahead of new season

The 2023 season of the Pro Kabbadi League is set to kick off in two days. There is massive anticipation as the tenth season will be packed in front of packed arenas. Just 48-hours before the tournament is set to get underway Star Sports India have found themselves in a huge controversy. 

Leading Ad-Agency, Re-Diffusion have accused the host broadcasters of copying their concept. The advertisement in question is the campaign by Star Sports India which involved Tiger Shroff along with big name South Indian actors. 

Star Sports India in massive controversy

Ad Agency Re-Diffusion have accused Star Sports India of ripping of their concept. According to the advertisement agency’s complaint it is alleged that Star Sports India took one of the ten ideas that were given regarding the campaign for PKL 2023 season

Star Sports India meanwhile sent out a statement to the media which read “Star Sports denies all assertions made by the ad agency, Rediffusion. Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 (PKL) ad featuring Tiger Shroff is a concept developed by the ad agency Wunderman Thompson (WT) on Star Sports’ instructions. Star Sports reached out to multiple ad (creative) agencies, to potentially assist with different facets of its overall integrated marketing plan for PKL. While the scope of WT was to create the campaign for PKL including TVC, the scope of Rediffusion was to come up with digital ideas to amplify the campaign on social media platforms.”

The Channel’s statement also read “On August 22, 2023, Rediffusion was approached by Star Sports for digital ideas specifically for the amplification of the PKL campaign on social media platforms. Rediffusion for the first time shared its concept note with Star Sports on September 1, 2023, and Star Sports provided its feedback on September 5, 2023, by which time (August 28), the concept developed by WT which included various looks for the celebrities, potential music, and concept, that culminated into the final campaign promo had already been finalized”

The statement concluded by saying “Despite communicating the above to Re-diffusion on multiple occasions, it has persisted in making frivolous and unsubstantiated allegations against Star Sports”.
