To organise it the Star Sports-owned company is working with the International Kabaddi Federation and the Amature Kabaddi Federation of India. While speaking about the proposal and the planning and progress of the league Screwvala talked about his plans for the Women’s League.
He said that he is 100% interested in owning a female team. “We are 100% interested in owning a team in the women’s kabaddi league,” Screwvala told Economic Times. He further spoke about the team awarding system and said, “I would assume that the present 12 team owners would be given the first look, but they haven’t told us anything formally.”
U Mumba appointed Suhail Chandhok as the new CEO
Notably, Ronnie Screwvala already owns a team in Pro Kabaddi League which is in its 10th year. Screwvala is co-owner of the U Mumba team and he was speaking about the female league during the appointment of the new CEO of U Mumba. Former cricketer Suhail Chandhok is appointed as the new CEO of the U Mumba team. He replaced Supratik Sen who recently resigned from his position.
Further, speaking about the Women’s Kabaddi League Screwvala said that the proposed league will increase viewership of the game. “Women’s kabaddi league is a good idea. Because if that goes on for another two months, that’s another two months of presence (for kabaddi). So, you will have four months of the sport,” he said.
Screwvala described the PKL as a commercially successful property and stated that kabaddi as a sport has come a long way as a result of the league. “It started as a popular sport from the beginning, therefore revenue has always been positive,” he said.
